What has this world come to?
I mean... i BOUGHT this membership...
It's only $15 per year..
But still... it's money i could've spend on something else..
Everything costs money these days!
Before you know it only BYOND members can play BYOND, and you're forced to pay for BYOND that'll slowly not cost $15 a year, but $15 a month...
Well, that's what i see happening next..
I hope it will stay free though.. but that's how it goes these days...
Everyone needs money...
I long back to the old days..
When BYOND and all it's features were all free..
Now i gotta pay before i can use the pager properly and vote for games...
I mean, people that don't pay for a BYOND membership are BYOND "members" aswell..
Why doesn't their vote count in the BYOND Top Ranked games?
They're players as well.. what about their oppinion?
But NOOOO.. only BYOND Members can have an oppinion!
Another stupid thing about money..
I just wanna make another game, so i go to the Classified Ads forum, and i ask if some iconmaker wants to help me with my game...
Cuz i suck at doing icons...
I put some info of the game in it and stuff..
I make a nice ad.. and i wait for replies..
Not even an hour later i get a reply..
"Erm, is there payment involved?".
NOOO!!!
BYOND is supposed to be my hobby, a nice FREE, FUN HOBBY!!
But no, they want money!
In the old days i never got asked for payment, iconmakers did their job as a HOBBY.. not as a job!
They were happy with a thanks, or GM, or some other payment those days.. but they never asked for money to me!!
So people, what i'm going to.. lets keep BYOND a FREE, FUN Hobby, as for iconmaking..
I'm willing to pay $15 a year for some extra functions.. but not more, and i'm certainly not gonna pay anyone for doing his hobby...
I'm not getting payed for beeing an online Radio DJ either, it's my hobby..

Hope some will understand this, and some people might not.. but they're probably the ones spending more then half of their salery on MMORPG's, etc..

Well.. when i'm hosting a game, i page to tell ppl i'm hosting, helps ppl keeping up to date.. and it's nice to chat with buds sometimes (even if you're logged off msn, etc.).

Yeah, we were meaning to tell you this, Cowdude: If you are a member, and you type in "Uber" in your pager, it makes everyone on your pager join the game you're playing. :o

Everything costs money these days! Correct. Especially things like bandwidth, and development time. BYOND started out as Dan and Tom's hobby. Care to guess how much money they spent on their hobby? | |
Stop whining, it costs them money. How about instead of everyone complaining you think of it this way, they could have just shut BYOND down all together.. It's not like you HAVE to have your pager! You can still play for free.

HAHA, yeah, I did notice that Kunark. But it's probably because they don't know the effort that people put in to make a decent quality icon. And they don't understand that people don't want to work for hours, days, or even weeks to give away free icons for a game that may not ever even get off the ground! Now, if someone is paying for an icon artist's work, that means they are probably dedicated enough to make their game go somewhere, and if not, they still got payed for their efforts.

Yeh, I get free icons all the time. Free icons made by me. Graphics aren't always fun, but it always beats flippin' burgers and cleaning toilets.
I don't get why people think that a crappy game is going to attract a graphics designer make icons for them for free. I wouldn' play these aweful games let alone spend weeks upon weeks making graphics for them, when I could be out "hangin' wit meh homedawgs" (Don't worry, they aren't gangsta foo's...), or making graphics for my own game. It's not like none of us have free graphics, I have a channel with a whole bunch of them in dm.libraries that I allow people to use free of charge, although all of them were made a few years ago, it still beats having an illegal or crappy graphic'd game. And it's not like you can't use text mode until you get icons. I say text mode because I hate stick figures >:P | |
Heh, I think I used some of your graphics. But I switched computers and brought my game over to this one, and lost the libraries, but I don't remember. :P
