I grew up in the Northwest, so until I moved to foggy San Fran, I was a "pop" guy. Now I'm all sophisticated and I'm a proper "soda" person.
How about you?

I call it Soda, rarely ever pop. Ironic huh? I'd actually like it if people called me fizzy instead of pop
|
I'm from Washington (state) and I call it pop. My girlfriend is from California, and she calls it soda.
She actually gets ticked off when I call it pop instead of soda... so of course I make sure to use the term "pop" as often as possible. |
Pop is clearly much cooler because it's onomatopeia. Except... hmm. They don't really go "pop", do they? It's more like... ker-pssssssch.
Ah-hah! I believe I have solved the controversy with this new, universally acceptable word. I'm gonna reward myself with a tall frosty ker-pssssssch. |
I call it coke. Any and all softdrinks are cokes.
Strange considering I normally drink Sierra Mist-a Pepsi product. |
I beg to differ, Vex. Here in Texas it is quite common for people to ask,"Do you want me to get you a coke? What kind?". Coke has become like xerox or kleenex in some regions- a named brand now used to identify the broader product. Soda or cola (or pop) may be more technically correct, but it still doesn't change the reality :-)
|
Same here in TN. We normally have to be a bit more specific when eating out, but otherwise soda=coke.
|
I call it soda or soft drink. The only people I've heard call it pop are actors in old movies.
|
My family calls it "Soda pop" >_> (or "Soda" sometimes, but usually "Soda pop")
|
I've never heard of fizzy drink.
Jmurph: Another example would be how people call gelatin, Jello. |
"Just because people call all soft drinks cokes doesn't mean they ARE! x.x"
So? They all are to us. Besides, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Coke, Minute Maid, all those and more are made by the Coke company, so they all are technically Coke. 'Coke' is the name of the company while 'Coca Cola' is the drink :P |
