Well, the break is over and it's back to work. As promised I got right off to a good start ticking my way through the bug list. Some of the more insidious bugs are gonna have to wait till next week, but they're coming.

I know there are some critical fixes you've been waiting for, but there was no reasonable way to get a release out yesterday and today... yeah, I'm not starting the year off with tempting the Friday curse. Instead I want to get a big release out probably Monday, and probably at least one more later next week.

One of the biggest changes I've already seen to is changing atom.pixloc so it includes bound_x/y offsets. The way it was originally done made sense from a "this seems easiest" perspective, and it did provide some info that bound_pixloc() didn't, but that was at the cost of, well, being kind of useless. In discussing the change it really shook out that no one would ever really be mixing pixlocs with using raw step_x/y coordinates, whereas having direct access to the southwest bound corner made infinitely more sense.

I'm also still gathering data on new reports, like a client-side hang I want to investigate, and I spent some time tracing the data I had available from a user's dump file—which is an excellent resource I don't often have available—but unfortunately it didn't give me quite enough to get to the heart of the problem. I have a very rough preliminary theory on the cause, but late last night I was given a test case that ought to help me get to the bottom of it. A lot of the time, there's no substitute for getting a problem to happen in the debugger.

Thank you all so much for your support of BYOND, especially through the horrifically expensive year that was 2024. Seven months of running two servers was not fun. You can get a jump on your resolution to be more charitable by tossing a few bucks in the tip jar as a BYOND Member, or as one of our regular subscribers on Patreon or SubscribeStar.

And what were my resolutions? Well, I started taking fiber, but that started just before the new year and it was more of a needs-of-the-moment thing. Otherwise I'm just hoping this year sucks a whole lot less. So far this pisser of a decade hasn't been strong on that score, but maybe sixth time's the charm. See you next week. Mak gam!
You turn 60 Lummox? dang thats a milestone.
We loooove BYOND!! When I have cash I will get a BYOND tatt!!
