Okay, this is getting really annoying. Whenever I go somewhere like here, where I have to type stuff, in firefox, every few seconds it freezes for about one second.
I've updated a lot of plugins, and that's when it seems like it happened. I'm having the same thing happen on Steam games as well after I updated my video driver. What's funny, is apparently firefox is harder to handle than Counter-strike, because it does it a lot worse as the pauses last a lot longer.
Any idea what it might be?

This happens to me a lot also, my Firefox will freeze even just starting up..Resulting in me having to use Internet Explorer and be bombarded by popups.. :(

Sounds like you've got too many plugins, or the wrong ones. Some plugins are more temperamental than others. Experiment with disabling some and seeing what fixes it.

Yeah, I have gone through and disabled all my unused extensions. It did fix a few problems I was having, some of my extensions were years old.

I spoke too soon. I disabled ALL of my extensions and it still does it.
Check this out: http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/9900/untitledof1.jpg That's what happened just as I was typing that text. I actually have a hunch now that this started happening after I updated firefox the last time. |
I guess try to reinstall firefox.
You could also try another profile (start>run>"firefox -p"). |

IE tab? That sounds gross. It's useful for web development, so you can easily keep account of how bastardising IE is to the code. |
Eh, I try to keep my Add-Ons count to a minimum; Firefox seems to dislike letting many of them cooperate together; if I have the ChatZilla add-on enabled as well as the Web Developer toolbar, Web Developer seems to take precedence and ChatZilla will act as if it's disabled, and trying to configure it in the Add-Ons menu only freezes Firefox. That said, I switch between the two add-ons; ChatZilla is the primary one that I keep running, and I'll disable it to run the Web Developer toolbar if I need something.

Any chance it's the new spelling checker? That's the only thing I can think of if it's not one of your extensions.
|
Good point, it can be disabled in the options(Can't tell you off where the top of my head).

Check your background processes - maybe it's not Firefox itself that's acting up. This sounds especially likely since it happens in CS as well.
|
Yeah, I'd have to agree on that. I've got a ton of add-ons even that annoying script blocker, which is really one of the most temper mental add-ons to firefox, and I've never had any conflicting errors. I also play steam regularly, mainly CS 1.6, but I've never had problems like that. Just see if anything in your background is messing with you, and perhaps back track if you can to when it started, and logically deduce anything that could be the source of it from when it started.
