According to math, the shortest path is a straight line, so google tells you that the shortest path is to literally swim across the atlantic ocean. Simply scroll down to step 23, and you get the simple instructions.

Nice. It is very Google to include something like that. The fact that it even bothers to calculate across seas is cool.

It appears that they've only got one point programmed in for the end point of the transatlantic journey. It'll give you the driving directions from that point to anywhere you can drive to, but you can't, for instance, get directions to Greenland or Australia, because they're not connected by land transit routes to France.

Anyway, the fact that it actually says "swim" means it has to be intentional.
I guess their way of saying "Why are you asking for driving directions to London from New York in the first place?"
