World Setting
Continents
The world of Empire Ages is divided into four distinct continents, each with its own history, resources, climates, and risks. The vast, uncharted oceans between them hold as much mystery as the lands themselves.
Draekal - The Land of Ash and Steam
Draekal is a volcanic continent, known for its blackened soil and powerful geysers. Here, mountain ranges rise high, concealing valuable minerals beneath rocky, inhospitable terrain. The Ogres and Orcs, resilient and enduring, thrive here, building sprawling fortress-cities that dominate the jagged landscapes. Draekal has the most frequent volcanic activity and is home to magma pools revered by the local gods.
Eredessa - The Shattered Isles
Once a singular landmass, Eredessa is now an archipelago of tropical islands. This verdant, jungle-clad paradise was broken apart in ancient cataclysms, making it a refuge for Merfolk, who navigate its hidden waterways, and the Mousekin, small and nimble inhabitants of the dense forests. Eredessa’s ancient magic lingers, causing unpredictable weather and arcane anomalies, making it a land ripe for exploration and danger.
Thal'raqar - The Endless Plains
Thal'raqar is a vast, rolling grassland and savannah, dotted with ancient ruins that hint at forgotten civilizations. Centaurs roam here freely, believing themselves to be the guardians of the plains. Humans also thrive on Thal'raqar, building early empires along its riverbanks. The peaceful appearance of this land belies a fierce climate, where storms can appear without warning, and the soil is haunted by memories of old gods who once walked the earth.
Volmereth - The Frozen Wastes
A brutal and isolated land, Volmereth lies to the north, covered in snow and ice. Lamia and Pigmen, races built for endurance, have settled here, adapting to the harsh winters and the frozen seas. Ancient temples hidden under the ice are rumored to contain secrets of the Old Gods, untouched by mortal hands for centuries. Volmereth is a land of survival, where the cold itself seems almost alive, seeking to reclaim all life.
Oceans
The continents are separated by vast and perilous waters, each with its unique qualities.
The Murkwash: An ominous, fog-laden sea between Draekal and Thal'raqar, known for its dangerous, hidden whirlpools and the presence of mythical sea creatures.
The Veiled Straits: A narrow and twisting passage separating Eredessa from Volmereth, filled with treacherous reefs and quick-silver tides. Legends say it is haunted by the souls of sailors lost to its icy depths.
The Azure Abyss: A deep, dark ocean separating Draekal from Eredessa, rich in monstrous creatures. Explorers who survive its horrors are said to gain the favor of the gods.
