This is really just a repost of something Tom posted a good while back. http://www.pandora.com/ is a great website for 100% FREE "streaming" music.
I quote streaming because it plays music based on your preference, so it isn't like a normal Internet radio station. It does a pretty good job of grouping music, and isn't too bad with the advertisements(It is open in another tab for me, so it really doesn't affect me).
The quality is fine, about the same as a 128kbps MP3. I have no complaints with it. It is also a great way to find new artists of your favorite genre. I find local radio stations tend to play the top 100, as to where Pandora doesn't rank based on popularity, so you don't hear the same song 50 times a day.
Check it out!

I've seen Pandora before but I never got into using it. Lately I've been listening to less and less new stuff, so it wouldn't hurt to give last.fm and Pandora a try.

I'm messing with Last.FM and it seems to be a little too top 100 for me. I like to hear artists I have never heard before, Pandora is pretty good at that. Pandora also finds music based on the way the music is, not what other people like or defined genre lines.
I'll keep playing with it, but it had better get better. I assuming it has an adaptive playlist that takes my likes and dislikes into account? |
Yeah. 'Musical MySpace' is a cool idea but it isn't really my bag.
Pandora is working well though. I've already found a few good songs by bands I previously considered sucky. It's surprised me how good a job it's doing. I get the occasional bad song but so far it seems to be spot on at mixing what I already listen to with stuff I'd like to hear. |
last.fm: yay!
