It's been a week of ups and downs, the downs mainly being dealing with some crap from Microsoft. Not software related, surprisingly! I feel like I'm playing out an absurdist comedy sketch where every time I try to clarify the problem I'm given an answer to the wrong part of what I said. Fun! I've just received notice that this may finally be fixed, but it will take a bit to percolate.
The long project has crept forward, but I don't expect it to really finish up properly until after next week. Next week is not only short, but it's full of scheduling conflicts that are just gonna blow it up. So I'll work on other stuff in between comas instead.
Over in software, I continued the type cleanup work I started recently, and put out a new alpha release for 516 with a new feature: astype(). The new proc is a forced cast-in-place that returns null if the first argument is the wrong type, and the type can be implied based on the same rules as either new() or istype() depending on the context. This kind of context-aware thing probably would have given Tom fits.
It's been both a lean and expensive summer, so please hit up the tip jar if you're inclined to help out. I'm greatly appreciative of all the BYOND Members and other regular supporters who make it possible to do this at all.
We have a three-day weekend, and I intend to make the most of it. Which unfortunately does not include watching our regular favorite weekend show, because it's in repeats for the next couple of weeks. We'll think of something. And Sunday is my BYONDiversary, which always puts me in a festive mood. Use your time to mak gam! I'll see you back here soon.
