The default behavior of most appearances when they're inserted into overlays/underlays lists is to inherit their direction from their parent.

This is almost always desirable, but sometimes it is useful to be able to set an overlay's direction independently, much like the space covered by the RESET_X appearance flags.

Unfortunately unlike color or transform, disabling this behavior is not obvious.

FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND this behavior is governed by a hidden flag on the appearance. This flag cannot be read or modified directly, and the only way to set it at all is to create an image with a manually specified direction.

This is highly obtuse and awkward for something that is in theory about as common as RESET_TRANSFORM.

I'd like to request moving this behavior to an appearance flag called RESET_DIR.
