My laptop is slowly dying =(

It's about two years old now, and from day one, it's been with me at nearly every minute. I think I'm murdering it with overuse.

lee-laptop will probably be dead by the end of the year, but with any luck, by then I'll have saved up enough to buy lee-notebook.

So far, this computers headphone jack is completely stuffed. It wobbles and doesn't allow sound to come through unless I wobble it enough.

The speakers don't work unless smack the CD drive up a bit.

The N key breaks off the keyboard at a moments notice. Can't go a day without it happening at least twice.

It refuses to accept the newest drivers for it's graphics card.

And, it's battery life has gone down a fair bit as well.

It's: 1.4GHz, 1.2GB RAM with a 40GB HD.

I also need a new desktop, my current is... well, it's crap. The sound card is busted, it has two network cards for... hell knows what reason and the graphics card is a piece of [expletive deleted].

It's 600MHz, 40GB HD & 10GB HD with... 256k? SD RAM.

I need new computers ='(
Ah, I picked up one for free. An HP Pavilon with an intel Pent 4 Processor (15 or 17 inch screen) with a dvd player and 512MB of ram. There is however a problem, the thing gets hot enough to fry bacon on. It is used and probably closer to two years old. It cost 1,300 USD when it was orignally purchased. This is nice considering it is double/and more than doubled in some aspects the specs and things I can do. I'm just afraid to leave it on for more than an hour. The keys get too hot to type on too.
That's why you take it to a PC tech and get them to install a Laptop case fan inside it.

It has two fans in it already. I've also taken the time to remove them myself and replace them with a brand that has more blades. A cooling base to sit it on helps some too, but I still has me concerned. I've heard there are cooler PSUs I can buy so I'll probably take it to a technician since I havn't had training with laptops yet.

edit: whoops

Git R Done!
How much is lee willing to sell said laptop for?

Despite it's short comings, I've paid up to $1300.00 in putting the thing together.

So when I do get a new laptop, should this one still be active, I'd probably say $300.00.

Someone didn't try to overclock it did they? O.o
Yes, damn you technological degradation!
I've had this computer, that I got on sale for 400$ in 2002, for.. well... 4 or 5 years.

I think my video card is starting to die.
My brother bought a computer off of eBay (it had 256mb ram, original videocard, and an illegal copy of Windows XP installed that we sadly found out after trying to download an update from microsoft's webpage), and when you started it up, it's like each pixel was being ripped over to the right side of the screen.

Mine does that but only from time to time.
Like when I get on it at night, you can clearly see it's starting to pull the pixels slighty to the right every once in awhile.

Of course, I only assume it's my video card.
I bought an nVidia 5500 FX card from a friend of mine for 30$, but I got rid of that awhile ago.
Put the old one on, and only now is it causin problems.
Plus, when you increase the resolutions, the screen is moved way over to the left, and when the left side gets rendered over on the right, it looks like it's being dragged.
Problem is, most likely, it doesn't have a laptop processor. It probably has a standard desktop pent 4 at 3.0GHz clock speed. My mom got a Toshiba with that problem. It gets very hot very fast. You cannot play graphics accelerated games because it will overheat and shutoff within 15 minutes of booting up. You might be able to underclock it. If you could underclock it to 2.0GHz or something, it would probably be fine on heat.

As for Tib: I recommend an Acer if you want a good bargain price. Mine had a price tag of around $800 and was a great deal. The only downside is a slightly low color screen. It isn't as crisp or clear as some I have seen, but those others sport much higher resolution with the same size screen, so it is kinda to be expected. They also carry much higher price tags.
