Allow me a moment to rant about the complete incompetence of channel 9's weather team. Tuesday night they said there'd be a chance of severe weather on Wednesday afternoon through evening, and yet the worst of it would be in the southern part of the state, and we were right between the zone of low risk and basically none. Wednesday I find out we're in a tornado watch, there's already a tornado to the north of me—not south—and there's a whole crapload of those suckers spawning all over a line of storms headed right for me. In the lead-up to 4 PM, one major cell with a tornado warning was barreling toward me, and around 4:15 it came more or less right at my friggin' house. Fortunately this was Doppler-indicated, and I don't think there was an actual funnel cloud, and it's possible it missed us by a little bit even so. But holy crap was that scary. And I was led by a bunch of feckless boobs to believe none of that was in the cards, until suddenly it very much was. They said during the emergency broadcast that they'd been warning us of this for a few days. Thanks for the gaslighting, guys.
Suffice it to say I'm still trying to find some calm after that.
Just before the storm hit, I got an emergency new alpha release out for 516. I've done a little work this week on 515 stuff too, but I've been flitting from piece to piece of various projects. More's been getting done than it looks like because it's all under-the-hood stuff, but naturally Wednesday was very much a lost day.
The other big project has been spinning up a little faster though, and it's supposedly further along than I thought in some ways, which means shortly that's going to suck up some of my attention. In fact this past hour and change it's getting in the way of posting news. Next week is likely to be dominated by that. I can foresee a number of late stumbling blocks in the road, but hopefully that can all be dealt with soon. It'll be nice to move past that finally, and that's really the only major impediment to slipping 516 into beta.
Without BYOND Members and those of you who support the platform regularly on Patreon and SubscribeStar, none of the work I'm doing would be possible. So as always I thank you all for keeping that going.
Next week is looking sketchy in every way. But hopefully not in a tornadic way, which would be a nice change of pace. I might stop shaking by then.
