NSIS Installers have a habit of not working correctly for me, I have no clue why (the Google Chrome installer worked, though)
I had BYOND 3.x (not sure what, probably earlier than 3.5) installed, but I wanted 4.0. So I opened the installer with 7zip, copied binaries and dlls except for system.dll to BYOND's bin folder, and copied other folders to likely locations (cfg to cfg etc.)
What registry settings am I likely to be missing from this, and what else might have been broken by this? (Also, if someone could help fix the NSIS issue, that would be incredibly appreciated)

It doesn't work (along with a million other installers that simply don't work), hence using 7zip to open the installer..

Sorry but i would have to say it does work and works perfectly otherwise we wouldn't have one would we?
http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Why_do_I_get_NSIS_Error I am not even sure if BYOND uses "Nullsoft Scriptable Install System" NSIS... |

[Most] Installers made with NSIS, and BYOND appears to be one, don't seem to do anything when run, but the process stays in the process list. I'm not getting an "NSIS Error" It just seems like the problems I've had with installers for too long seem to be related to NSIS (although the Chrome installer proves that not all NSIS installers are affected). Maybe there's another issue that's affecting some installers, and not related to NSIS. All I know is that the BYOND installer doesn't work, and that it opens in 7zip.

Also, I'm not saying this is a bug in BYOND. Something's broken on my system, so I just took the files out of the installer and put them in what seemed to be sensible places. This means I'm missing registry settings, and possibly other stuff which I should know about..

It is a pc problem nothing i can do about that, i think all registry files are loaded once opening the actual program (if they are missing) but it should be fine, any other problem please feel free to ask again.

It seems the issue at hand is definitely a larger system problem for Sgeo, not our installer per se. For future reference however, I can confirm that BYOND does in fact use NSIS for the installer.

Yes, it is a larger issue on my system, which unfortunately effects the BYOND 4.0 installer. My question is, besides moving files around, what else does the installer do (like Registry settings) that I could do manually, and also did I move the files to places so everything will work properly?

All the files should be pretty much contained in the BYOND Program Files folder. I often move my BYOND folder from windows right into my WINE folder and run BYOND sans the install. BYOND setups all settings as nessecary, so you shouldn't need to make or copy any other files. BYOND hardly uses registry at all, and mostly uses the My Documents>BYOND folder.

I hate to be "that guy" but I'm going to say that your best bet is to reinstall Windows. It is a bit of a pain, but it shouldn't take more than a few hours to get settled again, and your problems will most likely be solved.

BYOND has a self installing package which is so much easier than unpacking a zip file and putting things here and there just give it a try.
Thank You.
