Buy this mouse.

I thought my Logitech MX1000 was pretty hot to trot, but it pales in comparison to this little beauty, which gives you massive report rates and on-the-fly resolution switching with built-in buttons on the mouse that allow you to go between gross mouse movement and fine mouse movement for various detail work (like sniping in games, or pixelating in Dream Maker).

This is smooth like a woman's skin. After-bath-oil woman's skin. =)
Not with that icky cord. My MX-1000 is great, and cord free. Lasting up to 3 days of normal use on a single charge, it works great. It also feels very nice under the hand.

Any way you slice it: Logitech=King of Mice.
I too am happy with my Logitech MX-1000. Great battery life and great range.

I can actually take it down the hall into another room and move it around and click and it still goes through (even though I can't see... hehe). I imagine it'd be great for presentations and stuff.

And yes, Logitech = King Of Mice, Game Controls, and Steering Wheels. :)

Edit: Just a note, bluetooth version of the MX-1000 that comes packaged with their wireless keyboards is a cheap rip off, get the RF original if you want range.
Corded mice are far superior. Watch out for unexpected failures with that MX1000.
Hmm, I like the weight. I only use it on my desk, so slanted surfaces are not a problem.

All the buttons are great. I think it feels great under the hand and all the buttons are placed in just the right spot.

I suppose you did have a bit of bad luck, but I haven't had a problem with mine. Hell, mine doesn't even get gunked up like you claim. Sometimes hairs get in the laser hole, but aside from that it stays as clean as any other mouse. The only problem with dirt I have is on the left and right button. That does build up, but that is my fault.

The wireless G-Series mouses have really cool rechargeable batteries that are exchangeable, so you can have one charging while using the other one, and the battery area is spring loaded, so swapping is really fast. A friend of mine has one and really loves it.

Oh yeah, the speed of the MX-1000 is said to be virtually identical to that of a corded mouse. The use of RF as apposed to blue-tooth is actually a good thing. And wires get in the way. I can't stand it when a cord is too long and turns the mouse, or is too short and prevents me from moving it.
Instead of a battery, though, mine has a custom weight cartridge that lets me choose how weighty I want the mouse.

Right now, it's at "none". ;-)
I was about to write a detailed reply on how "Wow, that guy doesn't know what he's talking about." Then I noticed the author. So... Umm... yeah. :)

I kinda like a weighty mouse. And I don't use a mouse on slanty surfaces.

I've had to do very little cleaning over the past 2 years, and all it took was a damp tissue and a toothpick.

Yeah, 15 days is a joke unless you're only on your computer like an hour a day. I agree with you there. I charge mine once a week or so.

I've never had to mess with the contacts at all... but I do regularly dust off my mouse pad.

Power cable thing sucks, I know.

As for the sensitivity of the mouse wheel and it scrolling when you're just resting your finger, maybe you got a defective model? Mine works almost exactly the same was as the Microsoft mouse. You have to actually use a tiny bit of force to scroll with your finger and you can feel a little "click" when it scrolls. (Only diff is in this one you can't hear it).

So yeah, sounds like you got a bad mouse or something. It wasn't the BlueTooth version, was it? (See last post). That was the one that comes with the little USB stick receiver. The RF one's receiver is actually in the base/charger and works much better (I think anyway).
It would in fact be nice to have a mouse capable of drawing a straight line....
Yeah, Logitech make a top notch mouse. Even their basic models are great. I brought my Mum a standard corded optical mouse for her new PC a while back and it's excellent. It's only doing the most basic tasks but it delivers a level of comfort and quality far beyond what I would expect from such a cheap mouse.
"Polytetrafluoroethylene gaming feet"

With a word* like that, it has to be good. Besides, I'm tired of this black gunk on my mouse pad >:(

*Glad it wasn't on my chemistry test! Although I think it would be around 2F4(C2H4)
Okay, it's a nice mouse, but at $100 I have more important uses for my money. =)

I do need a new keyboard though. This one is pretty old, and it takes too much force to press the keys. Not the worst I've used but definitely not the best either.
I totally own that mouse. Not that specific one, but the other version of the G5. It doesn't have the interchangable weights. But it DOES have a three year warranty, which is just as sweet.

Only suckers pay suggested retail for Logitech mice. I paid only $58.05 for that mouse, compared to its suggested retail of nearly $100. =)

At $58.05, it's about three times more expensive than you'd ordinarily pay for a good-quality mouse, so it's definitely a luxury item... but believe-you-me, after having tried the MX1000 and the G5 -- even barring the problems I had with the MX1000 -- this mouse has it beat, by merits of its variable precision control, its safer rocker wheel (though I do miss the "scroll three lines" buttons above and below the scroll wheel), and its teflon feet. (I think they claimed "polytetrafluoroethylene" to make it sound like it's more technologically advanced than it is, but it's still pretty technologically advanced. ;-))

Plus, the cord isn't rubber-wrapped. It's wrapped in fabric, almost like a shoelace. This means it has less friction on your operating surface, so it doesn't snag as easily on a messy desktop like mine as ordinary corded mice, effectively eliminating the advantage that cordless mice have over it.

The MX1000 has a three year warranty, too. I called up Logitech. After paying $15 in long distance charges, the guy said "Okay, I'll send you a program to reset all of the settings. Thank you for calling Logitech support". I foolishly said OK and hung up. I never got that program.

I was not happy. That's why my MX1000 is sitting in a drawer right now instead of having been sent away for an RMA. I'm not about to pay another friggin' $15 speaking to a supervisor. It's cheaper to buy another mouse entirely that eliminates the potential unreliability and slow response time of cordless mice.
I'm with Jt- corded mice break less.
