The main request pertains to a feature that was omitted in the recent updates of the map editor for optimization purposes.
I'd like to suggest reintroducing the selection border. It could potentially be brought back either as a toggle option via a checkbox or adapted to fit the contours of the object being placed on the map in support of the following other additions:
1.) Display a translucent version of the object being placed on the map as a "preview" over the terrain where the cursor is currently hovering..
2.) For pixel-based games, it would be beneficial if the map editor could automatically adjust the step_x and step_y values of objects based on their placement within the map window. Right now, the placement is tile-centric and always snaps to the world.icon_size by default. Introducing an option to toggle this snapping feature on or off would provide the flexibility to place objects freely across the map.

I suggest that there be a snapping toggle by the step/xy/wz buttons at the top of the screen, and holding ctrl would invert this option for the duration that it is held.
