Today is the last day of the Indiegogo campaign for a new development machine, and I'm stoked to be able to order that shortly. (I'm gonna get the process rolling today, but I don't want to place the order until the funds are there.)
More work this week has gone into getting ready for the handover, and of course the usual bug fixes. The way things have been progressing, I'll probably put 515.1615 out on Monday, and I'm going to go ahead and do it with the new compiler just so I'm sure things are looking good for the transition. I meant to get 1615 out sooner and do a different release with the new compiler, but, well, it hasn't worked out that way.
There have been some interesting conversations lately about future BYOND features, where it seems there's a strong swell of support for things like non-growing simple lists, syntactical sugar over the same to treat them like structs, associative-only lists, and some new built-in procs for working with associative lists in a faster way. Things like that will have to wait for the WebView2 project, but they're relatively low-hanging fruit that might improve performance quite a bit.
I'm extremely grateful to everyone who's contributed to the new machine fund, but also want to remind people that the regular lights-staying-on fund still needs love too. All the BYOND Members and other donors who keep this platform going on a regular basis are hugely appreciated.
Pretty soon a new computer will be on the way, and with it a whole lot of new challenges including a massive amount of setup time. But once that's over, that's where the fun begins, and by fun I mainly mean a war with Microsoft. That, and I'm finally gonna get in on the graphical version of Dwarf Fortress, which defines fun in a similar way.
