I guess since everyone is creating a rant post about how the BYOND Games Live page is now messed up I can do it too. I believe that the BYOND Staff is rushing this Guild stuff a bit to fast, we have been waiting for 4.0 for many years so why can't the BYOND staff work on the BYOND Guilds with some private testers and then release it when it is ready? By releasing it unfinished new BYONDers will be turned off as they see BYOND as uncomplete system where the creators go and try to rush their project. It also annoys me that it seems like the BYOND staff is kind of forcing us to use these Guilds.
Sure it may be great for some people but for a new BYONDer it may hard to get into and it also seems like you must have a BYOND membership inorder to get your game out which is not why I joined the BYOND community. I joined because you could create games and it was easy to release the game, you could host your game and within minutes you could have players joining you, not having to pay for a BYOND membership to advertise my game. If I was to join BYOND today I really think that I would be turned off and would leave. Sure some may say that the Guilds is unfinished but why release it then?
I also know that the staff on BYOND is working mostly for free and on their own time which is why they brought in BYOND membership, I thank them for keeping BYOND a great place but rushing things to get more money will not help. I personally think that the BYOND Guilds will either fail or everyone will like it, there will be no in between as people will complain about the system for years. I thought what the BYOND staff was trying to do is make BYOND a much easier place for the new BYONDers and create a system that everyone likes which is not the case lately. Why not ask the community for ideas and what they think before you change stuff on us all of a sudden?
If it wasn't for the community I doubt BYOND would still be around. Why not have site test where you change the BYOND site for a week and see what the response is, if people do not like it take in the suggestions to fix it, go back to the original BYOND site, and then go fix the new pages. I do not want to see BYOND fail as it brought me into game creating but if you guys keep changing and forcing things on us you will see a big drop in the number of people who come here. But I may be wrong and the Guilds may become a huge hit that millions of players will visit here a day or we all may just get use to this weird system.

Thank you for making some REAL feedback, Calus, and not some empty, lazy rant like everyone else.
The system will take some getting used to and will need some tweaks based on feedback, but most of these rants aren't helping it one bit. The old system isn't coming back and it shouldn't, so they should be giving feedback on how to fix up the NEW system. I see this change as a brighter BYOND for the future, one with a lot more good games and a BYOND that is a lot more appealing to outsiders. This transition is going to hit everybody hard and probably should have had some more warning, but it's still a good thing. |
Whatever happens, guilds will HAVE to allow non-members in this current state, because of all these new games and old ones not going to be updated. The new Unpublished section shows 6 games (online) though when I use Lummox's link (http://games.byond.com/hub/BYOND;view=live;startitem=0) I see all the usual stuff that I play.

The reason why the new Unpublished section only shows 6 games is because it shows games that are currently not in a category. I guess most games that were under the original Unpublished section are now categorized which is very surprising to me.

Calus, I did not see that Unpublished section until today, before I would just search it up on Google and find it. The thing is, I was trying to figure out how to join a guild, but I thought it was because I am not a member.
I later realized that some players do not have a membership, but are in the guild? I am just confused about it. I like that I can find out what games I want to play, other than having to icgo threw piles of Naruto/Dragon Ball Z. But since I see so little games, it makes me realize how much players want Rips/Anime more :(. Anyway, I hope that they let you do either way(Normal/Guilds) to find what game you want to play. It would be nice if (like you said) they did not force you to go into one of these guilds, and maybe into another. And I would also probably leave if I joined today, Anyway, good rant, better than the others I have seen about nothing. |
It's really annoying to see when people aren't able to accept changes...
