It's been a weird week with some strange interruptions—the weirdest of which involved me having to call the cops. At the same time a lot of expected bug reports either didn't come in or came in a lot later than I'd hoped, so getting a release out early this week didn't happen, but I did finally get one out yesterday (actually two, but let's not talk about that).
We're barreling toward closing out the 515 beta now, and I'm building up a wish list for 516. The top of that wish list, obviously, is WebView2, but there are some other projecty things on the list that are gonna be important. I expect discussion of this stuff will pick up as we get closer, but for now I'm focusing a lot of energy on prepping for system upgrades needed to make this all happen.
Another thing I'm thinking of for 516 is upgrading the icon format. One of the reasons I shied away from this in 515, apart from too much else going on, was that I don't have a good way to connect the /icon datum to the internal object it uses so that it can store version information, but I'm formulating some ideas for 516 that might solve that problem.
Byondapi's new expansions are in place, so I'm curious to see how those get used or what else gets requested in the near future. There's a lot of untapped potential yet that I think could result in some really cool stuff.
During the maintenance phase for 515, by the way, I want to turn a little attention back on to developing a dark mode for Dream Maker. Setting up a new computer will probably get in the way of things a little, but boy is it time.
Thanks to all of you who've contributed to keep the lights on, whether as BYOND Members or via other donation channels. It's honestly been rough without the ads, and although I'm sure nobody misses them, it definitely bites into the bottom line. So everything really comes down to your support.
Summer is nearly over, and for some people it's over already thanks to school starting in August. Under my future regime that will be illegal. This also means my BYONDiversary is coming, which always makes this a special time of year. In the meantime, keep those grills cooking and mak gam.
