If you're still interested here are some of my ideas for a hard mode difficulty.
Faster moving genie projectiles
Spiders that leap towards snared targets
turtles that turn kamikaze on low HP and can self destruct
Slimes can heal by draining trapped victim's HP
enemies that cause D.O.T
Enemies that damage aura.
Dragon's fireball leave behind flames on impact.
Environmental hazards.
Snaking enemies that regenerate parts over time.
False item drops which have adverse effects.
- Poison berries detract HP.
- Silence potions inhibit skills.
- Cursed shields make the player take double damage or friendly fire.
Some of these seem over the top but it's not like anyone would force players to play on the hard mode setting. This really appeals more to 'hardcore' old school gamers who are used to games like contra or ghost n goblins and enjoy a challenge. Also, if these get implemented It'd create more lol moments where people laugh at the players when they die. I have more ideas like these but not all of them are fit for use on BYOND unfortunately.
