How do you guys feel about Hollywood remaking horror classics?

Personally, I like it because I like to see different viewpoints of my favorite stories, including better special effects and all that. A whole different feel makes it a completely new film to me but still keeps the story that I liked so much.

I find I do the same with music. If I love a song a lot, I like listening to covers of the song just as much as the song itself.

Granted that when they raise the special effects, the quality of acting and the competence of the directors seem to diminish in general, but if it's pulled off right, I'll enjoy the new movie just as much if not more than the old.

Except pumpkinhead. Stupidest set of movies ever, and both old and new should be destroyed. :P
I do not like the idea of it very much. You cannot remake a classic, it will just ruin it. It has been attempted many times. I think the remake of Friday the 13th will be stupid. Also, Rob Zombies remake of the first Holloween is going to be retarded. He is going to ruin it by adding his stupid crap that he puts into things like The Devils Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses. Sure, those movies were good, but you cannot remake a classic and make it look like that. It would be stupid. I hope he does a good job...

I am looking foward to Terminator 4 though. =D
I hate rob zombie movies anyways :P
I also like movie remakes and song covers, though Guns N' Roses sucked when they covered Sympathy for the Devil. However, I thought Shinedown's simple man was just as good, if not better than skynyrds.
Well, I'm not much of a horror fan, but from what I've read, many of the classics got that way by being unique, and no one who attempts these remakes has the ability to be unique. I read of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that the original was noteworthy for many scenes of bright daylight and scorching heat, a trait absent from the remake, and of using psychological terror effectively in place of as much gore. The Psycho remake quite a few years back only went to prove that no one can duplicate Hitchcock.

On the other hand, Invasion of the Body Snatchers was remade several times, and one of the remakes is considered quite good; reportedly the new version is in good hands too. (I'll go see it anyway, since three of my family members will be appearing in the film in bit roles: my uncle, aunt, their younger son.) But then, this story is known more for sci-fi than horror.

Also I can't agree about the covers. Some covers I like, some I don't. In some cases I like the cover but not the original, or others vice-versa. It greatly depends on whether the cover manages to work without trampling all over the original.
It depends. John Carpenter's "The Thing" is a prime example of a remake done right (even though the Howard Hawks original is a fine movie as well -- and when my dad saw it in the theater back in the 50's, it scared him almost as much as the Carpenter version scared me). But for each remake done right there are several done wrong.
Like GugHunter said, it really depends on what movie is being made.
This is the most godly movie ever: Killjoy
