A few interruptions happened this week, and in fact I had planned to post this news a lot earlier.
Bug-fix work continues, with a slew of new map editor fixes on deck from Higoten's reports and another slew still to fix. But one of the biggest bugs I ran across this week is a rather old one, and it's my fault from way, way back—and partly Dan's. I'll talk about that more on Patreon, but suffice it to say I made a huge mistake that for the most part simply never came up until now, and it's partly because I was misled by a comment.
I haven't yet been able to pivot back to threading stuff, but it's very very high on the to-do list. So is the matter of creating a dd.exe for Windows that runs Dream Daemon from the command line, which I was reminded of recently.
Also I did a little bit with trying to improve performance of some basic appearance tasks, as it was pointed out that soft-checking if an appearance var was the same before setting it could slightly improve performance. If that can happen in soft code, it can happen in hard code, so in a number of places I made that change. Little things like that are always on my radar.
Thanks everyone who's been a contributed to BYOND, whether as a Member or on other donation platforms, or both. Your support is what makes all of this work possible.
Next week is Thanksgiving! I have less than a week to get my living room tree-ready and Sharpie all my new lights. (Thanks, Technology Connections!) That also means next week is a short week, and that on Thanksgiving I'll be doing my regular live blog of the parade. Why? Because I frelling love the Macy's parade and I enjoy snarking on musical acts and commercials I despise, that's why. Don't ask questions, just be there.
