What is this I see before me? Could it be Dream Seeker running right next to the Mac OS X menu bar and Safari?

That's right -- the latest update to the excellent Parallels software has a new feature called "Coherence", in which the Windows apps can be displayed in the same space as the Mac OS X apps.

I suspect this will be how I start running my BYOND pager...that way I can see BYOND pages without having to switch over to Windows to do it.

The clear message is: If you have a Mac, get Parallels! And if you are avoiding buying a Mac because you can't give up BYOND, never fear!
Pretty neat, now they need to release a Linux version!

[edit] I mean with the desktop integration [/edit]
That's pretty sweet.. I'm thinking of getting a Mac myself!
same but im still not sure
Does it function EXACTLY the same as in Windows? Hmmm.. Perhaps...
But can Parallel play games like HL2?

That's a silly question. Parallel is like VMWare or QEmu, so it is limited by the same problems of them in being virtualized hardware.

They are planning to add more game support, but HL2 seems unlikely. However, you can definitely play HL2 and the like on a Mac, using the free Bootcamp software that Apple provides, which allows you to boot the machine into Windows. From everything I've heard, it works very well for games.
Old news. ;) I've been using coherence since it first showed up in the betas. Pretty clever hack - it makes the Windows desktop transparent so you see the Mac stuff that's below the virtual machine window.

That said, the new version including the last several betas has been a horrible resource hog. I think it's related to all the extra crap they're doing to fake integration between Windows and Mac apps. They have the feature to show Windows apps in the dock, which I have turned off, but Parallels still thrashes the hard disk like crazy whenever a Windows app quits. It goes out to lunch for several seconds each time. I'm sure it's not a Windows thing, but something in all the extra hackery they have going on. I'm about ready to go back to the previous version.
I did notice some resource issues in the few minutes I've played with it, but haven't had a chance to see what the deal there is.

However, they do lots of refinement and continual improvements, so I trust they'll work through the problems...
Deadron, I have located a new program, free, easy, and very good to use. It never needs you to buy anything but have a DVD with your installation on it.

To have returned to a post like this from 2007 I don't think it's much sensible. But to help those who have a Mac, such as myself, I think it is necessary. The program is called virtual box. I am currently running Windows Vista, because Windows 7 would not boot on my Mac no way no how ("Cannot boot from disk. Code 5"), and it runs easily. I have 100GB memory on it and you DO NOT have to partition anything. Everything is of easy use and start up.

With sleep mode, this program can be paused but still send signals throughout a game. It will run on and on until you close it. You can stop, pause, or delete it with ease. Everything is organized. The only disadvantage is the screen size in full screen. They can improve that with some help but overall for a free program for a lifetime this is by far the best I have ever used.

If you would like me to write a review on VirtualBox or give a link to the public, please ask for me to do so. I will be glad to.
