A couple of years ago, the following image ran in the local paper:

I immediately saw teh funny in it, and cut it out with the intent to send it in for Jay Leno's "Headlines" bit... I never got around to mailing it, and it got stuck with some papers that I recently came across while doing some cleaning...

Just wanted to share it here...

(Spoiler of the humorous aspect of this image can be found in the comments, but I leave it up to you to try to spot before looking in there...)
If you can't pick out the humor, pay close attention to the words "saftey-service director" and "stand in the middle of East Main Street" in the caption...

Safety and standing in the middle of a busy street (in the city's central intersection, no less, where the main route through town crosses Main Street) do not generally go together in my opinion...

Now, this isn't a difficult thing to set up... The intersection could have been temporarily closed for this photo-op... This is not likely, though, since, as mentioned, the intersecting street (just in front of them, where the cameraman must be standing) is one of the busiest paths through town, being the stretch of US 250 that runs through the city, making it a major truck route... The presence of that car in the turning lane next to them, though, suggests pretty strongly that things are operating as usual, and they've just run out into the street, and posed for a picture...

I don't know all of the details, so perhaps they did take some sort of precautions, but it surely doesn't look like it...
He he.. the paper was folded in a way the remaining marks look like many mouths(wi teeth) of some beast, and flames of hell... spooky.
There's a car going down the road on the left side, or maybe someone parked it in the road?

(Aimed at the closed road thingy SSGX stated)
Northern Rabbit:

Yeah, I like the patterns that came through from the creases in the paper... They don't really show up when looking at the original, but the scan brough them out...

Bwgmon:

"The presence of that car in the turning lane next to them, though, suggests pretty strongly that things are operating as usual"

I also had the thought that maybe they parked that car there, as some sort of blockade, but where it is at would not provide them much help (they look as if they're actually standing in the lane of the intersecting street... oncoming traffic would be coming at them from the right side of the picture)

And as I've mentioned, the street that crosses Main at that intersection is the main path through town... Closing it off would not really be an option for a newspaper photo (not even one including the mayor and safety-service director), as a detour would have had to have been set up to allow the rather huge amount of truck traffic that comes through town to still get through...

Especially in the middle of the day, as this picture appears to have been taken...
Haha, that's a great advert for safety.

On a humourous side-note though, that fellow looks rather like Doctor Octopus.
I got it, I thought it was pretty funny. Make sure to highlight the humor or it will probably be passed off.
