Almost 48 hours into this whole thing I'm already receiving a clusterf*** of emails and hits on the putgamersontv.com site. I'm a bit overwhelmed, as I'd like to make more frequent updates to the site etc. but don't have the time to respond to emails, do my job etc.
As people who are potentially in the target audience for this show... what kind of stuff do you want to see me post on the site? I have a billion emails to put up, but I know that that sort of thing can get old fast. I'm also hoping to post the full pilot as soon as I'm able to.
Would a guestbook on the site be useful? I'm not sure if I want to go as far as to create forums yet...
I am wide open to suggestions.

You could make a download section where you can put the videos on an ipod or some portable player.

More images for n00bs, like the ROFLCOPTER. I hadn't actually seen that image before (that is, I'd only heard it used in conversation), and I found the image immediately entertaining. Saved it, too. ;)

It thought the show was interesting but it wasn't exactly funny for some reason.

Wasn't there a Roflcopter game or something?
http://www.rofl.name/roflcopter/ I'd like to see a cast page or something, where you get a description of all the regular cast members. Oh, and hate mail never fails to amuse. :D |
I must be the only person who didn't like Roflcopter at the end. :( It's no different than other things like Shoop Da Woop, O Rly and Chuck Norris jokes; none of which are game-related (that I know of).

I guess you're looking for input on the site iteself rather than the project as a whole, but I have almost nothing helpful to say on the subject of website design.
:P Anyway, I understand the point of the trailer is to position the humor for network suit types, but I don't think it serves you as well as it could with the general public. The pilot's a rough cut, and potential viewers are looking at it through a greasy-lensed kaleidoscope. Just curious, but have you considered simply releasing the entire pilot to the public and seeing what kind of buzz that creates? I know that's "not how things are done", but you don't seem too concerned with doing things by the book simply for the book's sake, anyway. Alternatively, maybe a whole sample scene/three-to-five minute teaser? I walked away from the teaser with the suspicion that while you might get a bunch of people saying, "I'd watch a show like that.", you'll get considerably less saying "I'd watch THIS show." It would suck powerfully if you did all this work to demonstrate that a gamer comedy is a viable product only to have some network go "We gotta get a piece of that." and make their own hackneyed 22 minute mid-season replacement ("It's like Wings, except instead of being like Cheers in an airport, it's like Cheers in a game store!") that goes under by the first commercial break and poisons the atmosphere for anything that follows. You can't do anything to prevent that, of course, but I think you could be doing more to make sure that what people are excited about is YOUR show, not the idea of a game-related comeditainment. Relating to the type of character is a long way away from relating to the character in particular, which still isn't the same thing as loving the character. So, in a roundabout way, I guess this is a suggestion for something you could put on the site. "Win the crowd, and you will win your freedom." |
Guestbook is not enough, you should definitely make a forum, it seems like you got like 800+ diggs in what? 2 days? I thought the show was pretty funny.

I'd suggest a forum, if not something to interact with the masses with. Also, I'd suggest another trailer built for gamers. I think you said the trailer was for the production company(from what I heard), which really doesn't make sense to me. Also, I'd love to see a video of the Pizza guy scene with Edwin, the little part that i saw in the Blog post made me cry(from laughter). It might also be good to keep everyone updated with how it's going with The Man, like any info on if/when it will air, and what's going on as far as production.

I'm hoping to release the pilot as soon as I am able to do so. Right now my hands are tied by the stuff we have going on behind the scenes... which is both good and bad. Thanks for the input! So far everyone who has contacted me from a network has asked that I not put any information about them on the site... yet. Which kinda sucks... but I'll deal with it for at least a few days. Like you say though, that is definitely the sort of information that I would *like* to be posting on there! Oddly enough, I've received about 3 pieces of hate mail, compared to hundreds upon hundreds of positive emails. I guess that the "haters" all stuck to digg.com comments. |
