I've been wondering this for a while now, How old is everyone exactly? Obviously most of you are above the age of 18, but im not ashamed to tell people that im a fantastic programmer, AND im only 16 years old. It really doesnt matter how old someone is to be a good Developer, all it takes is a good work ethic and a will to learn. But just because the law says im a child, my brain capacity and physic obviously show an adult at heart, it just bothers me when some people look down on other programmers by their age. And yes, i've seen it done 1000 times over. So please post, even if your only like 12 years old, as long as you have the heart to be a game developer, you shouldnt be ashamed.

There was an age poll a while back, here is the outcome.

I'm 20.

Thats actually what i wanted to see, it actually feels good knowing that so many people even of that age aspire to become game developers. I myself plan on attending Fullsail University right out of High School, Its not a bad way of living either.
I recently turned 12.
I turned 21 last month. I first joined BYOND in 2002, before my birthday. I was 12. Be warned of that BYOND Curse:

DANTOM used BYOND CURSE!
It's super effective!
Critical hit!
[YOUR NAME HERE] is trapped!

Enemy DANTOM's attack continues!
Enemy DANTOM's attack continues!
[Ad infinitum]

I propose a new "Warning of the Day."

It's amazing how BYOND sticks to us (or vice-versa) as the years go on. I'm 19 now and came across BYOND when I was 12 in 2004.
I'm 19 ...
I'm 21. Would have joined BYOND when I was ~13 or so, though.
21 next month, joined in '04...I'm sorta jealous of the people that got to find byond when they were 12 or so but hey, I'm close to completing a Computer Science Bachelor's degree, eat that youngsters! :D

21 as of the 22nd of Oct, just graduated on friday with a game degree. Been on Byond since early 03.
15. So I joined BYOND when I was 12~ in '07.
A good majority of the common folk around BYOND started around the ages 12 - 14, me being one of the 12.

I originally started in 2002 when I was 12. Made a key when I was 13 in 2003. I'm 20 now.
I'm currently in college/university for my Computer Science degree to move onward to a 4-year college/university for more computer programming, mostly relating to game development.
Because you don't sound arrogant or anything.

Either way, I joined beyond right before my 13th birthday in '06, and I started programming about 6 months later.
I joined back in '05 when I was 14 years old. Do the math.

I'm one of those "developers" (I haven't made a published game) on BYOND that say [fork] Computer Science or anything related to game-making. I'm going into the Aerospace / Aeronautics field.

I joined back in 05 when I was 11. Ah, those were the good old days indeed. :)
I was 15 when I first joined on November 26/27th, 2003. However, I have heard about it earlier on Ambrosine's Resources and some forums. Originally joined to play "Dragonball Zeta", but eventually started DM a few weeks later. Of course finally got my first basic project released/hosted in July 2004 based on the BASIC version of it. That project was "Text City Simulator". If anyone wants me to, I could even type up the history about myself on BYOND.

I'm 21 as of September. Been with BYOND since I was 12.

Finished getting my Diploma as a Game Programmer in March of this year.

Been working on a project here and there on BYOND. Still testing the limitations, then giving up and transferring it outside of BYOND into a game framework I've developed in my college days.

I myself learned multiple programming languages, where C++ is my core while C and Python are my secondary.

Worked with a few game engines such as Ogre3D, ClanLib SDK, Pygame, R.A.G.E and the Phantum Engine.

BYOND just inspired me to take more interest in game development.
I'm 14 years old, my earliest post on the BYOND forum is from '08 (12 years old.) although i'm pretty sure I'd been on BYOND a little before then. Before BYOND I had been wondering around the world of game making a while, my first actual game making was around... somewhere between 6-8 years old? The reason I code is 'cause your imagination is only limited by the code your using and how well you know it.
When I was younger and using Byond, there were many people that thought I was older than I really was, but that was not so much because of my programming ability, I think, as much as it was the maturity I would show when having a conversation with the person.

I've been programming since I was about 10-12 or so. I know someone else who started programming at the assembly level (supposedly) when he was 8. The basic concepts of computer programming is really not difficult and does not require anything more than the desire to learn. What takes more is when you want to have an in-depth and exhaustive knowledge of how and why everything works the way it does in the computer, which can take many, many years of study.

I plan on getting my kids into computer programming at a very young age, and I hope to do the same for any more kids I have in the future too. I think I will probably be able to get them started when they are around 6 or 8.
I'm 19. Joined BYOND in '03 when I was 12.

I started developing for RPG Maker when I was around 11 (With my own ABS and CMS for those of you RPG Maker junkies).

I started developing for BYOND when I was 13.
