I got out of Sprint yesterday because they are tacking on new fees, so I managed to get out of my contract avoiding a ETF. I think I am just going to go with a pre-paid cell phone since I use like 20 mins a month.
Does anyone know of a pre-paid cell phone, where you don't need to buy new airtime every month? I don't like the fact I might have $50.00 in my account or 500 minuets, but unless I buy a new airtime card next month my account goes into suspension. I hate that.
Anyone know of any pre-paid cell phones, that are affordable, and allow me to simply use up my current airtime before having to buy another card?

I use a T-mobile 1-year prepaid which is 1000 minutes, plus an extra 15% for getting 1000 minutes, so it ends up being 1150 minutes. It costs $100 and the minutes are supposed to last for a year. You can add more minutes any time you need to.

You can add more minutes any time you need to. I can vouch for that. I work for a cell phone company(not t-mobile) and that's the best deal your going to find, as long as you can shell out 100 dollars at a time to renew it every year. Although, I used to have one of the same ones foomer mentioned, and I think you can buy them in increments, say 50 and 50, and as long as it adds up to 100 within a year you still get the whole year free. They may have changed that though. |
You're going to have a tough time finding such a plan- this time period exists so that the prepaid plans still actually make money for the company.
I'm personally a fan of Straight Talk, which provides a 1000min/1000txt for $30 a month. Also, I like how you say you got out of Sprint because they're "tacking on new fees"- yeah, that extra quarter is a big deal. You got out of sprint because you saw an opportunity to get out of the contract easy, which is fine, but don't try and sugarcoat it and make it seem like Sprint is greedy and raising charges. |

Does these pre-pay things come with phones in the US? In the UK I can just walk into a phone store and pick up a free Sim card from one of a few companies, and just pre-pay as little or as much as I want on that. Been doing it for about 5 years now.

Uh, what the hell are you even talking about? I was already paying Sprint enough as it was to begin with. Suddenly now if I don't set up an automatic payment service online I have to pay another $5.00 a month?
I always tried my best to make my payments on time, but the last thing I need is them trying to take out a payment if I don't have the money in my account. That new $5.00 fee is 100%, completely unnecessary. And I don't care if you agree with me or not. |
Tracfone is pretty decent, you can buy 800 minutes with a year of service plus get double the amount of any other minutes you add to the phone afterwards for $119..Had one as a kid for a few years..
