I've had my laptop for a while and while Windows DVD Maker used to do the job, but its more evident that its pretty much crap..I ended up trying DVD Flick/ CDBurner XP but still haven't come too far in not wasting dvds nor having them skip with artifacts on the screen (when played in a dvd player). Anyways, does someone know of a good dvd burning program that is better than these?
Are you referring to storing data on a DVD for use with a computer, or writing to a DVD, putting it into a DVD player, and playing a movie? If you're talking about data storage, I just move files onto the DVD/CD manually through Windows Explorer, personally.

Yeah I mean the latter. :|
k3b is the best, but as far as I know it's still Linux-only (the KDE folks are working to port their software to Windows but it's a long process)

infra-recorder (http://infrarecorder.org/) is the best Windows burning software I've used.

I've tried lookin at the video tutorials and even the forums but can't find a solution to my problem..As soon as I attempt to burn to compact cd or even disc image, it fails at creating a dvd image. Do you think you know what the problem is?

I had the same problem way back. The problem? The drive was shot -- would fail to burn DVD only at first then eventually it stopped working on CD too.

I still don't have a working burner, heh.

Hmmm, I at least hope thats not my problem...My laptop is just barely reaching its 1st birthday next month...As far as I can tell, it won't even start...It fails as soon as it is executed with even the same time stamp...The program looked so promising too... :(
I've found that if you can create a disk image as a separate step, ImgBurn works very well to burn it to the disc. Your mileage may vary.

I'm planning to buy a good DVD authoring program at some point, though I'm torn between getting an off-the-shelf program with lots of nice features (no more Roxio though--I didn't like their feature set in 7.5) or buying DVD-Lab which I rather like. I may just end up doing both. DVD-Lab is really awesome for having total control over the final product, with the caveat that you're stuck using a converter instead of letting the authoring software do all the work for you. (Using MediaCoder very often reminds me of the bit in UHF with the blind guy trying to solve a Rubik's Cube and asking his friend with every twist: "Is this it?" "Nope!")

Sonic's MyDVD LE came with my system and I actually like it for a lot of stuff; it's good at burning a simple disc and it can transcode the files for you, even choosing a general quality range you like that fits on the disc. It can't however save a disc image unless you upgrade to the full version.
