Sorry if it doesn't fall under gaming.
GFX is an acronym (or is it another word for this? meh) for graphics... sound it out... ggg-fff-xxx ... Gaa-fx! :)

GFX is a term used by people that are either too stupid or too lazy to spell graphics.

GFX = Title Screen/Hub Banner

Coder = Programmer

Iconer = Pixel Artist

Turfer = Pixel Artist - Specializing in environments.

Mapper = Level Designer

GM = Game Master - Someone who gets to terrorize a game.

MGM = Game Master's boss.

Co-Owner/Co-Creator = Not really a co-anything. The rights are never split 50/50. Usually they keep "full ownership" while having a few "co-owners."

Original = Anime

Pbag = The only form of experience gathering. It is essential to have them in any action-oriented mmo.

I always thought GM = Game Moderator, and MGM meant Master Game Moderator..

A moderator is someone who keeps the trolls in check and makes sure everyone is having a good time.

Isn't that what a GM is suppose to do?

GFX is a somewhat common term around images used in forums
usually describing customized images made with photoshop or other image editing programs
GFX in its self means Graphics
But its usually more so describing customized graphics that look cool

I would think GM applies both ways
Some more Shortened words
Mod = Moderator
Admin = Administrator

No. GM means Game Master, not Game Moderator, and definitely not both.

The job of a GM is to handle creation of new game elements, balance of existing elements, and correction of anomalous situations within an RPG. An admin handles troll issues.

If youre sticking to that theory then GM means Moderator. 90% of GMs dont do anything but moderate the games/provide support for players, they in no way create new elements for the game. The dev team arent the only GMs in games, and in most cases the dev team arent even the active GMs for the game.
This, and other acronyms can be found via the Acronym Finder.

If the game is large enough, you can break it down into three ranks:

Game Master is the guy who's job is to keep the players occupied, create missions, story arcs, things of that nature to keep the game fun.

Moderator's job is to get rid of trolls and deal with out-of-character issues between players.

Administrator's job is to keep the game and server running smoothly, and usually to double as a moderator when needed.

In small games, however, the Administrator usually ends up doing all three.

This theory is still flawed; in FFXI, WoW, MGO, RO, etc. the title GM is applied to people who do nothing but provide help/support for players. Unless the 2 of you are refering to creating randomly slopped together in-game events that arent really part of the overall game...

I think he's arguing that GM stands for Game Moderator. >_>

No reason you can't add help/support to the category of "things to keep the game fun":

But considering these definitions change from game to game, who really cares anyway?

Iuno... whoever started this topic? =P

A definition remains a definition. The above is simply because lots of games name these positions incorrectly and vaguely, which is why this discussion relying on examples has been flawed.

No, GM still means Game Master. The fact that many games misuse the term doesn't make it magically start meaning something else.
