I love Ragnarok Online, but it's so un-linear it's not even fun to play.
I like Silk Road Online, but the login bug keeps me from playing it 99% of the time.
I don't like tons of grinding, a bit is ok though.
Got any alternatives for me?
Try Lunia or Cabal Online.

I haven't tried Cabal but it looks pretty cool to me.

As for Lunia, I think it's awesome because it has originality to it.

Pick two, because that is what the game will be. (Good, free MMORPGs don't exists, hell I'd go as far as to say that good MMORPGs don't exist at all).

Then again, you like Ragnarok Online and Silk Road Online... Two of the worst MMORPGs I think I have ever seen... So just pick any MMORPG that is free. There is a 99% chance they will be better than those two.

Perfect answer.

The closest thing that comes to being free is PlaneShift RPG, which is a Free Software RPG -- the problem is, it's not very good yet.

The closest thing to being good is World of Warcraft, which perfects the current paradigm of RPGs - but it costs a lot.

The most roleplaying-oriented games tend to be MUDs, but by today's gaming standards they aren't good, and anything decent isn't going to be free.
They say that necessity is the mother of invention. Perhaps you should create one.

I think Shadowbane might be exactly what you want (I never tried it but you might want to).

I could suggest Rappelz or Granado Espada... However they both have item shops :)

There are tons of good free mmorpgs, one of which i would recommend, 9Dragons by acclaim. Might want to try the IGG gamesas well most of them are really fun, especially Wonderland Online. That game is awesomeness to the extreme http://wl.igg.com/, also here is thier database for recipees , quests , and the like if your gonna play it I would recommend using it. http://wlodb.com/

ShadowBane is also free (not always the case) and pretty decent.

This is the only free MMORPG I can recommend - And I've tried about 10 or 15 of them. The rest are just clones of more or less the same backend engine, designed to get people to pony over cash for faster rewards once the games slow down. Most of those games end up costing you ridiculous amounts of cash if you want to get anywhere near where its fun. The reason ShadowBane isn't is because it was never designed to be free.

Check out OnRPG's forum, it's filled with MMO junkies who swarm over new games, both English and foreign.

Latest trend would be Luna Online, search it up in Google.
