Best software for Voice Recording?

I dont think my laptop mic is good enough for recording voices in my classroom.
I can bareley hear music that's playing right next to me...

You ever think about getting an MP3 recorder? They have gotten pretty cheap and normally are good for those types of things. Most PC mics aren't made to pick up distant noises. For most PC uses, you don't want to hear everything in the room, especially for gaming.

But I don't know a lot about sound recording.

may be worth investing in a decent external mic (if the mp3 recorder route doesn't work out). all the software in the world can't fix crappy hardware.
