I hate iTunes now.
I wish for an alternative that features DRM-free music.
I mostly listen to Christian Rock, so it's really rare to find sites that carry this kind of music.
I don't want to wait for a CD in the mail. I want to be able to download my music. I want to be able to play the music on my ipod also.
Anything like this available?

I hear Amazon's music store is great.

What is DRM by the way? I've never actually taken the time to find out what it stood for, or is. I know Napster works on iPod's.

From Wikipedia:
* The iTunes Store, run by Apple Inc., allows users to purchase a track online for $.99 US. The tracks purchased use Apple's FairPlay DRM system. Starting on October 17, 2007, users can download DRM-free music for the same price as a DRM protected file.[7] I don't use iTunes personally so I don't know the legitimacy of this claim, but it may be worth investigation. ~Kujila |

DRM is Digital Rights Management, and it is basically designed as copy-protection for audio, with a 'friendly' sounding name. People don't like it because it often stops you from moving your music from your PC to your music player, for example.

Ditto on that. I bought an album off their store and was very pleased with the experience. I also got my mother buying music from them, and without my help, she was able to completely figure it out(I just mentioned to her that Amazon offered DRM free tracks that came as MP3s and she jumped right on it).
As for the iTunes Plus tracks, I'm pretty sure that's very limited on selection. I could be wrong, however, because I haven't checked the iTunes store in a long time. |
eMusic is excellent and has hundreds of Christian rock albums available (apart from tens of thousands of albums in other genres).
The price is 30 cents per track, the music comes as DRM-free MP3s, the downloads are very fast, and the site is very easy to use. If you want to give it a try, give me an email ([email protected]) and I'll send you a special invite that will give you 50 free downloads. (I get some free downloads too, since it's through their refer-a-friend program!) |
