For my "home" server, I want to have port 80 open to everyone, and all other ports open only to selected IPs, is there a way to do this through Windows software?

I want to open only certain ports, but I only want a list of IPs to be able to gain access through those ports.

Windows firewall? I believe this can be done, yes.
Open up the firewall settings. Make sure the firewall is on, and allowing exceptions. Go to the Exceptions tab, and add an exception for port 80 to allow everyone to access it. Then add exceptions for the port range 81-65535 (I don't remember if it's possible to enter a range, but I think it should be.) Somewhere in there is a button labelled "Change scope". Click it, and you can type in IP addresses and ranges as instructed on the dialog. Once you've done so, the exception will only apply to the specified IP addresses. Do the same for ports 1-79. It would be somewhat more secure if you only opened the ports that you actually needed. =) Even if you trust the computers with those IP addresses, those machines could still be compromised. Or someone could perform an IP spoofing attack if they gain access to your local network. |
Are you talking about Windows Firewall that comes with XP? I stopped using that and switched to "ZoneAlarm with Antivirus" which works very well in both a firewall and antivirus. There's a setting where you can allow certain ports through. As for Windows Firewall I don't know but it's possible to look through its settings....
