[T]he court concludes that Novell is the owner of the UNIX and UnixWare Copyrights.

So that means Linux is owned by Novell now?
And doesn't Microsoft own Novell?
Linux was made to be similar to UNIX, but it is not a type of UNIX, and it was not made by Novell. So, no.

No..
Linux and Mac are stems of UNIX.
If NOVELL owns copywrite to UNIX, then they own Linux and Mac? o_o
And doesn't Microsoft own Novell?

umm... NO!

Well Microsoft and Novell are "buddy buddy" now...
Traitors...
In response to Flame Sage
No they aren't. They've had a couple of interactions (since the 1990's), but other than that, they have no interest in the open-source market of Linux. They just know to take advantage of opportunities.

Linux != Unix.
In response to Flame Sage
Linux is not unix. It uses no unix code. It's an entirely separate codebase that happens to fulfil the POSIX specifications
In response to Flame Sage
no
linux is more like a clone
made seperate from unix coding
so essentually a lookalike or a mimic would be best describing

in fact some might consider the linux name to be gnu/linux
gnu stands for Gnu's Not Unix
so that describes it best
it looks like unix but its not
altough the name gnu/linux is essentially personal oppinion
no
microsoft made deals with novell yes
but if microsoft owned novell there would be chaos in the linux community EVEN worse then microsofts allegations that linux infringes microsoft patents because that would mean suse was owned by microsoft and that microsoft was eating its own foot by saying linux is bad
and you would end up with windows suse edition

Microsoft wouldn't do that. Any of the changes to the kernel would have to be made open, which isn't something they would want.

I really need to read up on things... -_-

No, Novell made a 'please don't sue me' deal with Microsoft. But Novell has always been a competitor to Microsoft, and any court that allows Microsoft to own Novell is a corrupt court indeed.

I don't like the deal that Novell made with Microsoft, if only because it makes outsiders fell like Microsoft does have a patent case against Linux(which they don't), but there is no "buddy buddy" between them.

Linux != typesof(/unix) either.
