I was wondering if I helped the cops with lets say a drug bust would it be possible for them to drop a charge against me if its a DWI charge?

It's up to them usually. I know that a lot of the UK has a drug amnesty where you can be pardoned of drug-related crimes if your information leads to an arrest of a supplier/dealer. Depends on what kind of info you are going to give whether they be just posessing or dealing/supplying.

Police officers are just like any other person. If they feel as though you did something wrong, but you're willing to help them so in the end you've benefitted them more than your arrest would, they might drop the charges. Emphasis on might.
For instance, I remember an incident where a police officer had pulled over a woman for speeding. Someone in the opposite lane rubbernecked, watching the police officer, and rear-ended a car that had stopped (also probably to rubberneck -- I hate rubberneckers). The woman started to get out of the car and the cop is probably thinking, 'Oh no, now I have to chase her down too?!', but as it turned out, she was a registered nurse and wanted to help. A doctor pulled up a couple moments later, too. The cop dropped the speeding charge. |

I'd do it, but you watch out. They almost always find out who ratted and will attempt to hurt you or your family. Be careful and don't say anything to anyone about it. >.> It's always better not to tell even your family that you helped with a drug bust.

Cocaine, meth, etc...those are all drugs in my book. And, in my opinion I sure as heck wouldn't want the types who purchase those drugs hanging around my neighbordhood. So, yes...it's anyone's business if it's being dealt in their neighborhood. Let's put it this way...say a crackhouse is two houses down from yours, you have kids, one day one of your kids is out playing in the middle of the yard & someone does a "drive-by" & your kid gets hit in the cross-fire? Wouldn't you consider that YOUR business? |
If it's something hardcore like meth, crack, heroin etc then for sure bust that shiet. But if they are just growing some green herb, I'd say let it be. The chances of getting your DWI revoked because of it are slim. But if you are going to bust it, call from a pay phone and don't give your name just to be safe.

Its not just any weed case. The person works at a gas station and deals it while he works, kids come in all the time and buy from him.

They arent gonna drop a DUI/DWI for some small dealer. I can tell you that right now.

You could always go for citizen's arrest and bust that place up yourself. They might forgive your charges, and it's worth a shot. It's not like you're being a tattle tale, you're getting drugs out of your community.

I agree with you on everything except for the fact that you don't think marijuana is a drug. This is not about beliefs, thoughts, or opinions--it's a fact. Marijuana IS a drug. There is no going around it. How could you not think that it is a drug?

I can't tell if you're being tongue in cheek, but regardless of whether you were, I haven't laughed that hard in a long while. =) |

Also, I'm not entirely sure if Citizen's Arrest actually exists or if it's just some Hollywood hubbub. And why didn't you report it before you wanted a favor from the Police? *Edit* Citizen's Arrest |

They can't bust them unless you have reasonable cause (are they disrupting someone)? If it's in their house they'll need a search warrant to do anything, and like I said... they'd need reasonable cause for that.
Just some kid calling and saying there's drugs next door isn't going to cut it. Of course if you're an adult, it might be a different story. |

Drug addicts tend to get in the business of selling drugs in order to make money to acquire drugs. It's the easiest and fastest way to more money...
Things have gotten so bad here that there was a news article about how meth dealers were adding candy flavors to the meth and giving it to kids, to get them hooked on it. Personally the world would be a better place if we just picked up all drug users and dropped em off on easter island. |

It's actually a lot different than tobacco... in fact vastly different.
For instance; a person I work with uses weed as an agent (just like alcohol) in order to get laid when at parties, and openly admits it. Weed allows people to do things they wouldn't normally do. It also contains several hundred different agents within the product itself, wiht many of them not having much research/study backing up what they actually do and what effects they have on the human body, and as such... it could be a pretty serious drug long term but eh we wouldn't know without more studies now would we? |

All my friends use it, because it's better than being drunk. It also costs less.
