Grah, I was going to post this in the Linux Forums on the BYOND Members page, but it took to long, so I moved it over here for hopefully a quicker response. I just installed Ubuntu, but I cannot connect to the internet with my wireless connection, and my ethernet connection just sets the network connection on my laptop to idle.
What do I need to do? Sorry if I haven't given enough information, I'm not sure how to find anything yet.

Im not sure how to get it. Could you tell me how?
Sorry, I'm not very tech-savvy, I was hoping using Linux would help me with that a bit among other things |

Well, it's far from impossible to be tech savvy with a Windows OS, I did it for years.
Anywho, we need to know what type of laptop you have, possibly what type of router, if you are using any encryption or anything on your WiFi. The most likely case is that you just need drivers for your wifi card. Try searching "[your laptop brand and model] Ubuntu wifi". It will probably turn up your answer. |

Ok, I'll search for that, but I'll give you the information just incase
Laptop: Compaq Presario Notebook Product: Presario V5000 Router: Airplus Xtreme G Wireless Router(D-Link) WiFi Encryption: WEP Key, I tried to get it, but someone put a password on the damned router since last I was on, and nobody knows it. I already tried the Admin, but it doesn't accept D: But it should let me connect with my ethernet, shouldn't it? It sets my connection to idle when I do...dunno how to get it to connected <_< Thanks for the help so far and for putting up with my nooby questions |

If you have a WEP key, it won't let you connect unless you know it. I don't know what distro of Ubuntu you are using, but there are good wifi tools on 7.04 and available for download for 6.10 and earlier.
You will need to know the WEP key to be able to access the network, at the very least. |

I entered all the information into my wireless connection information(eth1), but it tells me I have no connection, and it doesn't want to keep the wireless connection activated. It keeps disableing it. I am using Ubuntu 6.10, btw |
