I am trying to register the key: 'BYOND Linux', it keeps on coming up with "reserved word", why?
BYOND Anime and BYOND Labs and all of those keys were able to be registered :(
Does this require a BYOND Staff member removing the block or registering the key themselves?
[EDIT: It's for the BYOND Linux Guild!]

You could come up with an alternate name. Something along the lines of "Linux Dream Seekers Guild" perhaps. |
Well, can an administrator register the key "BYOND Linux" for me? I really would like to start up a Linux guild. :(

That one's free. Why does it have to be specifically associated with BYOND? You can always call it the "BYOND Linux Guild" in your blog itself, as long as you don't attempt to misrepresent it as being official. |
Yes, but I'd really like it associated with BYOND if possible, can a BYOND administrator work this out with me possiblly?

I want to make a BYOND Linux guild!
Why couldn't I make a BYOND Linux Guild, like the BYOND RPG, BYOND ANIME, etc. guilds? |

although it is not mentioned out-right, the digitalBYOND gaming and hosting guild focuses on browser-based gaming *and* Linux-based BYOND gaming (mostly text-muds and the like, but efforts to get things running under Wine are useful too).
you are welcome to join and i can give you the 'keys' to a section of the guild's forum for Linux-based BYOND gaming, if you are interested. |
Because the BYOND RPG/Strategy/Anime/etc. guilds are officially sanctioned (they will eventually appear on the front page, when that's all sorted out). The appearance of the "BYOND" keyword is thus a marker of officialdom, so to speak. And I for one don't think there's sufficient interest for an official Linux-specific guild.

And I for one don't think there's sufficient interest for an official Linux-specific guild. I call total bull on that. There have been multiple well-received threads regarding getting BYOND to play nice with Linux, and after that there have been threads requesting more information for more distributions from Linux users of varying skill and experience levels. It boils down to this: if there is public demand from the BYOND community for an official source of information on how to get BYOND to work with Linux, and you have an experienced BYOND and Linux user who is eager to head up such an effort, I see no reason that the BYOND staff cannot make accommodations to that end. I support an official BYOND on Linux Guild, and Flame Sage has my vote of confidence as the guild leader. Furthermore, I volunteer to help the guild organize and maintain tutorial and how-to information as well as I am able. |
Same here should be about time linux users had a place to goto for help without searching the fourms and reading a ton of posts on how to get DMCGI working, why do i get this error
"error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" It would be a simple place to input answers to these types of questions, also it would be good to include a link to the guild (if made) in a help section or in the byond linux zip file. |
I was more meaning interest on the part of the staff, rather than from anyone else. =)
I think there's certainly a place for a Linux-related guild on BYOND, whether official or not. An official BYOND guild might imply official support for graphical-BYOND-on-Linux, though, which there isn't (yet). Still, if you think you can persuade the appropriate people that this is a good idea, then good luck to you. I would be more inclined just to set up the guild. I don't see the advantage of being labelled "official". If it's good enough, it'll get attention anyway. Once it's established you might have more traction in getting links to it from the main site and so on. |
Allright, I'll set up the guild. :)
Anyone that wants to help, either page me, or reply here (please include in the post about what you can actually do for the guild.) |
The Linux Guild now has a BYOND membership! :)
Join the guild! ^_^ http://members.byond.com/linuxguild |
You should think about changing from the Ubuntu logo for your avatar to the Tux. Like the blog profile avatar.

The Tiny G2 one looks good. You're still looking for things, like Tutorials and possibly installers? I might give Slackware another go at getting wireless working and get one done up. |
