From my post on the Nintendo forums...

Yep...The wii won with a A- for launch while the PS3 got a B. I know this makes alot of you guys happy(and maybe renewed hope in some), but for me, it gives meh a little to "brag" on to my sony-fanboy friends that just refuse to hear anything bad about sony/good about Nintendo(pitiful '-.-). Anyways, here's their stand on the wii(note, exact headings but slightly summarized additional info to the headings):

Pros:

1. Ease of Use - easy to pick up
2. The Wii Remote - works well and offers many gameplay possibilities
3. The Virtual Console - there will be alot of all-time classics available
4. Zelda - true classic for all ages avaialable at launch
5. Online - Nintendo is finally tkaing a serious approach to the internet
6. The SD Card Slot - Nice to know that multimedia possiblities given
7. Wii Sports Pack-In - gave peopel something to play right out ofthe box

Cons:

1. Graphics - pretty big dispraity between visuals on the wii and other systems, but expected to improve overtime
2. No DVD Playback - at this date, seemed silly not to include
3. No Hard Drive - although enough memory, used to systems having harddrives; wonder could it possibly hinder developers in the future
4. Wi-Fi Only - for easy access, seems odd that plug and play wasn't added
5. Gimmicky Games - a fair number of launches seem shallow and rely solely on controller novelty
6. The Wii Remote Speaker - neat idea, but cheap sounding
7. No Battery Life Warning - when they go out, you only receive a generic connection failure warning rather than a replace the batteries message

Lol. Are you a hardcore sony fanboy or osmething? x.x
UBISOFT! UBISOFT! THEY PUBLISH CYAN WORLDS! YAY!

*ahem*

I will be getting a Wii and a DS as soon as I have the cash. I'm not a hardcore Nintendo-er, I just think that if I have a PC as well I might as well get something different - I can pretty much play any PS1,2 or 3, or Xbox game on my PC (or one very much like it) but I can't wave around maniacally in front of it or play a decent Zelda-stylee without an emulator.
And I want to try the candle thing out :-).
Nentendo Wii will be the cause of many broken windows and such cause: your playing and your hand gets sweaty and the controller fly's out of your hand as you go to slash an enemy or something, and it breaks your window, lamp, glass baseball trophey, tv, the glass you left on your bedside table cause you were too lazy to bring it to the kitchen, just to name a few...

that is why i heard the Nentendo Wii people were going to start buying rubber hand grips for the controller...

It has a lanyard thing so you can attach it to your wrist to stop it flying off - people just can't be bothered so it's their own fault.

Agreed. How hard is it to wipe your hands off when your hands get sweaty? How long does it take? What 5 seconds maximum detracted from a game to make sure you don't break something is a huge time waster? All that aside from the fact that you shouldn't be swinging the remote like you're gettin swarmed by bees in the first place just strikes me as odd. People can be complete morons..0_0

Game Informer does tend to do "payed reviews" a bit much, but it is far better than GamePro and all the magazines that are console specific(Playstation Magazine, XBox Magazine, Nintendo Power).

That problem is true for most news sources, especially those aimed at technology.

I think you seem to be a Nintendo fanboy, just by the way you brag about Nintendo getting a slightly higher score in a single magazine.

Not if you're doing it correctly. Then it could take up to 2 minutes. Rice pads FTW! My friend uses them for his forehead and neck. You should see the grease those things absorb!

They weren't looking very hard, were they? At least, I certainly got a 'batteries out in remote' error message.

I can highly recommend every DS game I own. Unlike the PSP (and to a lesser extent the GB series) the majority of the games are made for the DS rather than just being dumbed down copies of console games. I actually find myself playing it even at home a lot. It's very refreshing to play a handheld that holds it's own against any of the consoles.
I don't find this surprising at all. Sony is not known for good launches. What's really going to hurt Sony is if they can't manage to get a decent Xmas lineup next year. I've looked at their release list and I'm just not interested. I might be interested if the cross platform games play, or at least look, better. However, there has been no luck on that front so far.

I'm still not sold on the Wii. I don't mind the graphics. I just don't trust Nintendo's ability to reel in third parties for home consoles enough. I don't care if some head honcho mentions a couple great games coming out in some span of time. It could still be a dry spell. Mind you, I think Nintendo could pull it off and I'll root for them to do so. I just want to see the games before I pay for the console.

...Of course, I'd have a ball if I owned a Nintendo DS. I could probably even live off of the GBA games on that thing.

In a way yes, but if H ad the cahs I'd buy every system and be through with it. 0_0 But notice how earlier I said it's from my nintendo forums post, pretty much exactly as is. Meh, Nintendo is cool and yes I'm bored with my wii for now(itsn to perfect, and I need more games) but if some Sony extremist(like my brother) just all out gives Nintendo no credit and thinks Sony can do no wrong, I'll have to rub this in their faces..0_0

Heh, I'd be more worried about this Christmas if I was a Sony executive. The PS2 has begun it's slowdown as far as new titles go, yet they aren't going to be releasing the PS3 here until March (well, they say March, who knows when it'll actually be). We were meant to be getting the PS3 with the US but for some mysterious reason they recalled all our units.
We were meant to have all these new PS3 titles to distract us from the lack of PS2 titles but they're all stuck waiting for the PS3 to launch.
There has been some decent titles released in the past few months so it's not deadly, but compared to what we should have got it's really weak.
I think they're going to loose a lot of long term business over here to the Wii and the 360 because of their bad launch. There were so many people relying on Christmas to get a PS3 and now they're going to have to either settle with the 360/Wii or wait until next year. Odds are by next Christmas they'll already be cemented in their Wii/360 ways.

Although I guess we'll start with a much stronger/longer list of launch titles and a more stable model, so it's not all bad for them.

That has me nervous as well. It's the reason I was so happy to see Call of Duty 3 on the Wii shelf. I loath these war games that seem to be so popular but it's good to see a franchise take advantage of the Wiis FPS potential. I'm tempted to buy it just to encourage FPS developers.
If only Nintendo didn't sell Rare, the Wii would be perfect for Perfect Dark. =P
I'd like to see Namco release a gun for the Wii. They'd probably sell more gun wiimotes than games. I guess they could port their arcade games without even releasing a gun. That's got to be a drawing point.

I'd recommend a DS over the next gen-consoles. You can pick up an original model Nintendo DS (which is better size-wise for older users anyway) pretty cheap second hand. I have no doubt the lite is better in terms of specs but the original is still a great handheld.
