.avi problem

Any time I download a new .avi file and open it (any program) I keep getting a visual studio just in time debug message. What is causing this?

Is there anything I can do to stop this. Is this a DRM thing?

You probably have codec problems. The only solution I could offer would be to download a .avi codec pack, but those tend to come with adware and spyware.

[edit] You can also try VLC to watch it: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/. VLC is a fully funtional movie player(Can play music too, but it is designed around movie files) that just works great. All around it is a great movie player.

I downloaded a new codec and I get the same error. This only happens on new stuff, all my old movies work.

edit: I just got that program and it works :)

I was gonna say... I have this MASSIVE codec pack I could put on CD for you and send to you. It's like every codec known to the world all in one installation package.
