Just a few minutes ago, I fell victim to that crap posted by that Dr Doomer asshole(As you can see, I'm clearly not happy x.x). Because its my first time being infected, I'm consluting you guys for help. The file he gave:
1. Disallows system restore to work
2. Disallows changing of the background(You gotta stare at you got hacked by blahblah)
3. Makes internet pages with the java popups appear
I've heard of something like starting up in safety mode for Windows, but idk. Anyways, how can I get rid of this crap? '-.-

Yes. He posted it under community as game he worked two months on and on somebody else's post..Not only that, he used another account(I'm assuming) to make it seem like they tried it and it was "awesome"; both keys created today. I sent a support form and those posts are now deleted; hopefully that bastard gets banned. Although a crappy easily removable "virus", I don't appreciate gettin infected. I hope he gets banned..x.x

'-.- To start up in Safe Mode, hold Ctrl as soon as your computer passes BIOS (where you hold Del to get into the BIOS settings). Continue holding Ctrl until a prompt appears on the screen, then use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode. I don't know if this is any comfort to you, but a true virus is one that actually attaches itself to executables on your hard disc and executes itself when the parent executable is run. I imagine that this guy is much too stupid to be able to do that without using someone else's virus source code. =) Any person who deliberately attacks BYOND or its users gets banned, so don't worry about that. They've been shooting this guy down every time he pops up, but like most trolls he has an annoying regeneration ability and several hit dice. Here's hoping he either gets bored or gets a little more mature. |

For your reason exactly, I put virus in quotes; it was more annoying than harmful with those popups. I was suprised at how easily I took it off: blocked a couple sites, disabled the strartup program for it, and the one that was running. |

As long as they don't have their feet on the ground, their butt in the chair and their fingers on the keyboard, they lose their regenerative properties. |
I had a virus similar to that that none of my programs could detect, and if they did, delete. It's one of the reasons I reformatted my computer. It was long overdue for a reformat anyway. I recommend backing up all of your data and files that can't be re-obtainable and reformatting.
I've tried safe-mode, I've tried avast!'s post-boot scanning (before it starts up explorer.exe and all that, but after it boots), System Restore (I believe it corrupted all of those files, none of them worked), and more. None worked. |
