I wouldn't say its a total hoax, i mean I've gotten the message telling me theres a photo of me a couple of times already. As for whether or not its a virus, if it wasn't a virus why would people be talking about it?
Now I suppose it could just be a self replicating message that sends itself around for fun but most have a more sinister purpose.

Oh no! A .pif file! The horror! No. That's only one of their uses. A PIF file is a shortcut to an MS-DOS program (or, in theory, any other non-Windows program, but usually DOS). And it can have executable code in it. As for whether it's supported in XP, I don't know (I just looked at it doesn't have the file extension registered, so I guess not), but there's nothing to suggest that ADT_CLONE was running XP. And quite possibly an innocent webserver which possibly contracted a Linux version of the virus is shutdown. In my experience, viruses are rarely cross-platform. The exploits used to propagate them would have to be completely different, for a start. Hoax. Not necessarily. ADT_CLONE may not have the knowledge to use terminology completely correctly, and may be overestimating his ability to create an "anti-worm" (whatever that is), but that doesn't mean it's a hoax. You're being too hard on him. Lighten up. |

Together with what Crispy said, 'snot a hoax- enough said. If you've never heard of the MSN worms before then you definitely haven't been wasting enough of your life on MSN, which means you're a newbie.

I've always avoided MSN precisely because it wastes so much time. =) Same reason I stopped visiting Chatters. Now all I need to do is kick the forum habit and convince myself not to read blogs and I might actually have some time to do interesting things! =P |

That firewall isn't going to protect you from downloading a file. This was posted as a warning. Granted, this has been seen a lot before, but it's still useful to those who haven't heard of it yet.
As for your firewalls, one good firewall can do better than 3 crap firewalls. Quality is everything in this matter. Windows Defender is a good anti-spyware, but isn't always necessarily your best choice. I'd consider other obvious and popular alternative. Spybot and Ad-aware are two very good ones. Norton antivirus is good, but it's incredibly slow and can really bog down your PC. |

You just got owned yourself- the whole point of this thread is about not clicking random links, especially if they come with the text "Here's pictures of us all". =P

As for the firewall, whenever I try to access it windows has an "Undetected Error" message pop up.
As for your DNS server, that wouldn't be anything to do with this. We never actually got into the server because we stopped. FTP server has password. Duh!
