What is the average computer temp.? mine is running around 68.7F is that normal?
|
20 degrees C is nothing to worry about, but if that's just the case ambient temperature then it's not telling you much.
I suggest you check the CPU's temperature (and your graphics card's temperature) if you want some meaningful numbers. The CPU and graphics card are two of the components that are most likely to overheat. Hard drives come with temperature probes these days as well. For a really useful measurement, you could try running an intensive benchmarking program for an hour or so beforehand, to heat the computer up as hot as it can get. Then check the temperature and make sure it's within recommended bounds (which you can check by looking up the manufacturer's recommendations). If you don't notice any instability and the temperature isn't noticeably out of the boundaries, then you're fine. |
ok ill do that, ive just bought a $800 computer and last thing i want is for some of the stuff to over heat.

My cpu runs at about ~25c at standby(when I'm not doing anything CPU intesive) and about 35 or so fully loaded. This is with stock heating mind you. You can certainlly get a CPU to run at 20c =)

Oh, it's not impossible, for sure... I just don't consider it common. Most people use stock cooling, and stock cooling wouldn't help you hit 20 degrees.
Also, my perception is biased since most of my CPUs have been hot ones... |
Yeah this is probably one of the coolest processors I have had. From what I have read though, most processors can stand up to about ~70-80c before overheating. I would advise not letting it go past 65c or so.(It's an AMD Sempron 2600+ I acutally wish I could overclock the thing but BIOS gets angry when I try to do so.)

Mine idles around 48C and gets up to about 54C at peak. I have a good dynamic fan speed reduction that actually keeps the processor about the same temperature no mater what it is doing. However, the graphics card gets very hot. During high usage(In games) the temperature inside the gets so hot you can feel about a 5-10F difference in the temperature of the metal it is made of. At idle, the temperature is about that of the room.

I suspect it's not the CPU temperature, because I've never seen a modern CPU running at 20 degrees C. =)
