After playing Super SMash Bros. Melee, my memory card got corrupted..Does anybody know how to fix my card WITHOUT fromatting it? I refused to format it cuz I got too much data on it to lose. Before telling me not to use third party stuff, its a 251 block Nintendo card..
What do you mean corrupted? If it's anything like I think it is (probably a software bug or just savefile corruption), you can trasnfer your data to a new memory card and try that.

Nah the whole memory card is corrupted meaning that you can't interact with it in anyway, besides formatting it through the GC..0_0
Sounds like someone was shutting off games the wrong way, what has Nook* told you about that?

*Not sure of the spelling, Nook was a person from Animal Crossing, he was one of the characters that would grip at you for just cutting off your GC while in a game.

Nah, that was Mr. Resetti the mole.

Have you ever turned off your games incorrectly though, Mecha? It could cause corruption down the road.

Cutting off during saving? Never. I've had my GC over 3 years now and it hasn't corrupted til SSBM. I say thats more than coicidence..

Does it say that the Memory Card is corrupt in other games...cause Smash Bros may just read it as corrupt because you did reset it at one time...

or you reset while it was saving at some point unnowingly

'til SSBM?
You act like SSBM wasn't the launch game that everyone bought when they got their GCs, because SSBM is awesome.

No it isn't stuff like that happens all the time and you might not even realize you have been doing it. Mis-care of your memory cards, leaving them in exposed elements and so on can eventually cause wear and tear on your memory cards and cause they to break down.

Also keep in mind, memory cards are nothing more then flash memory. You can only read and write a memory card so many times before it will eventually start to die down.

How old is your memory card? How often do you use it and how many times have you formatted, saved or deleted data on it?

I used to have a N64 with a memory card I got on launch. 2 years back it started to randomly corrupt.

It might not have been you, chances are it wasn't you, but it STILL could have been you.

Happened to me...I kept great care of my N64 Mem Cards but they just started to corrupt themselves after 3 years

It may not be fully corrupted; it's possible that just the SSBM data is. This ordeal happens to me all the time on the GameCube, even though I always make sure to return to title screens before shutting off the power. Games I've had it happen in include:
  • Madden '06 for GCN(I ended up buying the PS2 version because it ticked me off so much.
  • SSBM
  • Sonic Adventure DX

It's annoying for sure. If you can, try turning on the GCN with the top open, and delete the SSBM data from your memory card. Then see if it still says it's corrupted.

Nah it said my whole memory card was corrupted, so I couldn't even see what was on it. I ended up formatting it but luckily it didn't have my most important saves on it. Still though, memory to over 6 of my games were lost... 0_0
