A while ago, my brother had the horrible idea of installing Windows Service Pack 2. An absolute no-no to me. Anyway, he installed it(Without me kmowing- if I knew, I'd've stopped him, duh.). When I got home later, I found that the computer was lagging badly. An I investigated, and saw that Windows SP2 was installed. nistalling it took about 20 mins =/. When I was done unistalling, and rebooted I saw that all software for all hardware was deleted, though they installed themselves while I was looking for all the CD's which contain the software =/.

Anyway, my current problem is that whenever I boot up my computer, a pop-up appears: "Windows Installer"(title of the popup), and with the content: "Preparing installation". I cancelled it right away of course(It doesn't say what it's installing, but I suspect that it's Service Pack 2 again..).

My question now is: What is that pop-up? And how do I get rid of it?

Thanks,

O-matic
Ouch... I let that installation continue, and when it was done "preparing" it suddenly started 'restoring' MSN Mesenger. o.o

So, uh, sorry for wasting your time if I did so. >_>

Dunno why you wouldnt install SP2 or at least have it slipstreamed onto a xp cd, the only issue i have with it is the open connection limit that they have, but thats easily remidable with a patch. Other than that i dont see any reason not to install it

It lagged my computer up, booting it took three times longer than normal, and that's only booting. I haven't talked about logging onto my account! That also takes much time, much more than usual.

I don't mean to boast, but I have SP2 and can boot up my computer and be ready to use in under 45 seconds. =P

Then it's probably my computer >.>. But it lags my computer up badly, and it's annoying. No matter what, no version of Service Pack is ever going to be installed here..

I have the latest updates for Windows as well, and my computer's BIOS runs a check in about 5 seconds (altough this might not be affected either way), loads the operating system in about 4 seconds, and the computer is ready to go about 8 seconds after that.

But then, my computer came with SP2 installed and I have Gatreway support on all my drivers, so they update whenever I want them to.

Lag is a network thing, I really doubt it "Lags" your computer, but rather it makes it run slowly. OK, so lag is actually just another way to say delay, but it doesn't delay your computer, it slows it down, which are two different things. Now you could say your computer lags behind others in speed with SP2.

Sorry, that was just bothering me for some reason.

Meh, I never actually cared about the definition of "lag", nor about the difference between "lag" and "slow". =P

But, it does infact slow my computer down - which is an annoying thing. I was used to get this computer booted up in less than a minute, and with SP 2 it took more than 3 minutes.

Before i got a new sata card my computer was awesome at booting, it took 10 minutes to boot. It was the onboard sata geting overclocked due to the pci locks not being used for the onboard sata
