I've decided to let BYOND Members have a few extra features listed above.

Staff can lock this if they want.

That's granted it's not being done already. Not straying from the two games I inhabit. I wouldn't know.

I'm really not so sure about that. The original post had a valid concern: giving benefits to BYOND Members may be seen as the equivalent of BYOND profiting from a fan game. If that game ever became large enough to attract the notice of the copyright holders, they could go after BYOND itself, right or wrong. With our current community size, I think the chances of that are slim to none, but we would like to grow at some point. Some content creators embrace their fan creations, while others are very draconian and try to stomp out any creative works based on their originals. We'd really rather not attract negative attention from the latter type.

BYOND Staff have not discussed this, so don't take this as official word just yet. It's simply my opinion. I would personally shy away from doing anything of the sort in a fan game. Quite frankly, I would go one step further and make a game based on ideas like the original, but with all specific names, storylines, artwork, etc changed. Then you should be in the clear, regardless of what you do for Members.

this is not a question of whether or not its good to support BYOND. fan games aren't supposed to reward people that spend their hard-earned money on BYONDimes. the question is: should membership fees be treated the same way?
