I noticed I hadn't installed SP2 for Windows XP yet, so, I booted up my Automatic Updates, and it said "Downloading Service Pack 2.... FAILED"

I have no idea what's wrong, none of my other updates have failed.
I have ran spyware and antivirus removal programs, and they come back clean.

Has anyone had problems like this!?
Go to Microsofts website and download it.

I did, but everytime I do that, it pops open Automatic Update, and fails again.

For some reason, it doesn't appear on my "Automatic Updates"....

When I downloaded it manually, and booted it up.
Got this error:
The core system file (kernel) used to start this computer is not a Microsoft Windows File. This service pack will not be installed.

I have the current things that could interfere:

* GRUB installed.
* Changed my Boot Screen.

How would I get SP2 to work with GRUB? I really don't want to uninstall GRUB.

Or is it my bootscreen that's causing it to freak out?

Normally Windows will just go ahead and overwrite the boot loader when it installs, so unless the service pack does extra checking I don't think that would be the problem.

The custom boot screen is probably the source of the problem. Try one of these links:

It's the boot screen.
