Wait, under 17... or under 18? 'cause there's a huge difference. If something's not suitable for those under 17, then that means it's okay for ten and twelve year olds to have it, right?

I mean it's obvious that some people do enjoy these Sim patches on a sexual level, so why would it take a sicko to think that perhaps a pedophile would enjoy abusing the Sim children with these patches? I think it's as stupid as banning the original Doom based on that Playboy mod, but I don't see why you'd think someone would have to be so messed up to be concerned that pedophiles could potentially use the Sims as a child molestation simulator. | |
Well, I think it takes more than re-skinning to get the Sims to do anything with children that would count as molestation. A parent watching their toddler bathe or run through a sprinkler? Call the FBI!

You don't understand because you're probably not realizing that 17 = minor, 18 = legal adult. It's two entirely different legal worlds. You can't 'protect' an adult, you can do it for a minor though.
The sims issue won't hold up in court. One good programmer as an expert witness could dismantle the entire case for the proceution. However Rockstar screwed themselves by leaving the code for hot-coffee in the game itself. It would be different if the hot coffee mod added the entire thing, and didn't just unlock it. Also, it can be unlocked on consoles via gameshark and other such devices. For the people who don't realize what AO means to a game: AO material cannot be sold or rented anywhere that is not adult-oriented, or licensed to sell/rent such material. This means you will only beable to obtain an AO game at the same places you would buy porn. EB, Toys R Us, Best Buy...etc, cannot sell AO material, and the places that can carry it are not allowed to have it in the open. In short, AO severely cripples the marketing of a game (you cannot advertise AO material at prime times. The reason you only see commericals for girls gone wild, or sex chant phone numbers after 11pm or midnight, is because there is a law in place that makes censorship lax during a certain time frame. This is also how comedy central is able to show things uncensored now and then). | |

Like I said, I agree that it's pretty stupid. If only for the fact that the average pedophile can buy adult only games without even showing ID.

Actually, it's not... he didn't say that all R-rated material is pornographic, he said that some pornography is rated R. I've never made a specific survey of that subject, but it's certainly possible... movie ratings are determined by the specifics of what they portray. Pornography is defined in part by the intent and use of the materials, not the specific content.
A steamy sex scene in the middle of an R-rated movie does not make it pornographic, but a film consisting of nothing but scenes of the same explicitness and intensity designed and used in the manner that pornography is would still be pornographic. | |
