Wait isn't WINE GPL'ed? Where's Cedega's source/CVS? Can't you just compile it from that? Why aren't people pumping out home-compiled RPM/DEB/etc packages of Cedega?

i think you'll be waiting a while. development on Cedega is far more advanced and progressive than Wine is right now.

Oh, I should have been more specific. I meant Wine [and its derivatives] which would encompass Cedega. Sorry =X

what kind of performance issues are you having? i use the 4.3.2 version of Cedega on a 1.3Ghz AMD box, and games like Half-Life/CounterStrike (pre-HL2, mind you), Warcraft III, and Max Payne (still have not finished that one yet.) run ok on my box.

I haven't messed with this in a long while, but when I did, Cedega (Then WineX) was having horrible times with Steam (The platform to which Valve moved).

When I *did* get it working, it just didn't perform nearly as well (FPS wise, responsiveness, etc) as it did running natively on Windows, or at least that was my un-edu-ma-cated guess =P

Also, I could never get my microphone working in Counter-Strike for in-game voice chat capabilities.

It no longer uses enough of WINE to be considered.

yes, but as i mentioned before, transgaming is a commercial venture- they started out with WineX and developed along a different track to produce their own product.

So is there anything we can do to get BYOND working with either WINE, CEDEGA, WINE X, etc?

Well I do know one thing, the whole WINE PROJECT thing that's going on. (more on that in the other thread)

at this moment no, not until the powers that be have the time and energy to look into it themselves. i, unfortunately, do not have time either at the moment to look into the possibilities myself.
