Same reason we have more than one kind of fruit tree. Variety is nice.

Lol, course the American government doesnt like the idea of monopolisation, its a CAPITALIST country, competition is good for the well being of your country. And I believe microsoft has been split, in buisness terms, its shares are now listed in 12 different names or something ( cant remember, sorry ).

( Yes, I'm a lefty )
why have houndreds of systems for a bunch of different games that aren't compatable with each other, when you can have ONE computer that is compatable with ALL CD's!!! IF you agree post!! I'd be glad to read you thoughts

Two main reasons for me:

1) Comfort. With a console I can play in the living room on a 32-inch TV instead of in the study on a 17-inch monitor.

2) Standardization. With a console, you put the CD in the slot and you're ready to go. No installation, no special hardware requirements, no driver upgrades, no CD key codes to enter, etc.

Hear hear! Well said, although I fear this might end up being a console-bashing punchup thread...

Yea, everyone knows the Gamecube is for little kids, and the Xbox is a glorified PC. However the PS2 is for hardcore gamers! (Sorry couldn’t resist)
