Imagine if all the best coders and iconers on byond got together and made a game, each person coded a bit of the game and iconers did whichever they were best at. It'd own..... except for massive lag probably since of all the crammed in features, and no i'm not suggesting this just wondering how much ownage the game would create.
Too many cooks spoil the broth.

Since when did cooks and broth come into this? This topic is about coding a game, not recipes of food.

Fine, look; this is what I think of the thread's central concept:

Login()
var/cooks = "Developers"
var/broth = "Game"
world<<"Too many [cooks] spoil the [broth]."
..()

Do I have to make it any clearer for you?

Obviously. But do yourself a favor and learn at least one new word: metaphor.
The sum of all of these imaginations: One sucky game.

Last thing I want is a DBZ/Card/Board/Defender/RPG game.

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

Its been suggested multiple times before, and besides the fact that most of the developers don't especially want to work with each other (a lot of them just like working alone), the general consensus is that too many people working on the same project results in a mess, not in an ultimate game.

Suppose one developer is designing a system that another developer needs in order to finish their system. Only the first developer is lazy and decides to take up another hobby isntead... Or worse, what if they decide they like their other hobby more than developing the game and decide to go do something else instead - then the second developer can't finish their project because they don't have the necessary systems for it, and they'll either have to make it themselves or find another developer to do it. A whole lot of little things like this turns into a mess.

Now, if you've got some paid programmers (being paid kind of makes people more inclined to focus on their job instead of wandering off looking for something else to do) with someone who knows how to manage a big project like this, then it might get somewhere. But we all know that isn't going to happen, at least not with a massive group.

Besides, any decent group of paid programmers with enough know-how to build anything decent would be better off building in another language that's more capable than BYOND.
