Hey guys, Boomer T here with a question...or two....about FFXI.
I may be getting it for Xmas on my Ps2 and was going to need to make sure I'm not losing 80 bucks.
My question concern the p2s version, not the windows.
1) Do you have to by the internet connection port (How you get your PS2 online) seperatly? I never had one, or know if you even by one, if it come with the playstaion or not.
2) Updates. I got the Windows versoin last year, (My computer could not run it thanks to the TNL error. )
While i had it, it took 27 hours to update.....thats on a 56k connection....Does the ps2 version need to be updated like that, and if it does, does it take a very very long time for new users?
Well, thanks to any one that can help me out.

It's better if you have broadband. I might get it but Im not too sure on how the connection of a ps2 and a comp differs? I have the network Adapter and that kinda stuff. But whats up with the plug ins and internet connection. Do I have to get like a whole new internet connection like eithernet? Or can I just use my dsl connection that Im using on the internet. If I can would it cost extra money? Also what isp's did you use? how did you set it up with the isp? |

FFXI has a monthly fee, but PS2 Online services do not. A ps2 can connect though 56k or though highspeed. I do not know if it would work with a DSL connection requiring a password. It will work over a standard lan, I have actualy ran my PC with FFXI on it at the same time a PS2 was, with no real negitive side effect (EX. LAG).

man, guys thanks a lot....but....i don't think i can get it for xmas....blasted mother say 'it's to expensive' so, i'll wait for a sale or something....
But i mean really guys, you helped me out a but. I was really expecting to be called a newbi again. (I asked a similar question about half a year ago and the only response was 'shut the hell up you newbi.' Yeahhh....right......') Thanks again, Boomer T. |
Secondly, you will have to have a PS2 hard drive AND a PS2 network connection. (Each will run you about $30, but the Hard drive will come with FFXI.)
Next, to set up an internet connection on your PS2, you have to have a memory card and the Network Adapter. Just plug the adapter into the back of your PS2, and put your network cable in the back of it. Next, put the CD that comes with the adapter into the PS2. It will find your IP adress and set up the connection, then save it to your memory card.
Now, all you have to do is get ready to play FFXI!
