Uhh any one know of a program that can translate english to latin and latin to english?

Well as I am a student of Latin II, I have to say that you probably will never find a full fledge translator. It would take quite a dedicated programmer to put in all the rules for Latin to translate words. You see Latin doesn't just get translated based on the words, it also has endings that you can decline based on the word if it is 1st, 2nd, or 3rd declension, and thats the only ones I know of so far. Then verbs also have their own line of endings which are seperated by singular and plural, same as the nouns and adjectives. When put into a sentence all these endings have to be used correctly with the words for the sentence to make sense in Latin, but if you just tranlsate on the meaning of the words without following the endings, then the sentence will not make sense. It is a lot more in depth than that but I can't pull much off of the top of my head at the moment. If you really need help page me whenever I get on and I may be able to translate what you need.

No it actually doesn't work very well because if you want a translator, you'd want it to translate everything perfectly including all the grammatical things, what this thing will do is that it'll give you the words to choose from and you'll have to think of how to make it "work" with the context, which is what people use translators, not dictionaries, for.
Plus it sucks anyway, just look up I can on it and it'll flood you with irrelevant things even though it's just the word "volo". | |
That might be true but it still ISNT a translator, you're better off buying a dictionary than using that junk.

Well it is hardly even a full blooded translator, as it doesn't really aid with endings and so there is no way to conjugate and set up a setence with the words. If you know all the endings to each declension for Latin then you could do it, otherwise using it to translate texts is absolutely useless.
Plus, even if you had a dictionary it would only be so helpful. You have to know the rules in the language to actually be able to break whatever you are translating down into an understandable sentence. | |
I found this to be useful: Go into a Latin chatroom on AOL or whatever you use. Just type in "Latin" in the "Search Bar". Most of the people in there speak both English and Latin so ask them to help you translate things.
